Isn't this the root of all of our problems, commit a crime, confess it and go on to commit the next crime ?

In the Catholic faith, we believe forgiveness is offered only if certain things are preseent. ( And FYI, confession to a priest is only necessary for mortal sins, not venial sins.) God alone does the forgiving, not the priest. The sinner must acknowledge that what he has done is truly a sin, and that it was done out of free will. He must plan to try to not do it again. He must be truly sorry . He must be willing to make up for his sin in some way. The priest, after hearing the confessor, is in a position (through the power of the Holy Spirit) to express what God has offered, forgivess. Of course, if the confessor is lying, and doesnt have true remorse, or immediately goes out to sin again, then obviously God sees the reality of it all and forgivess was not present. Jesus understood human nature perfectly when he instituted this sacrament: we have a need to talk to someone when we are feeling anxious, upset, and guilty. A trained person who can listen and offer comfort and help us work through our sinfull desires, and then assure us, only after he himself is sure, that our loving and forgiving Father has welcomed us back with open arms.

Repentance of ones sins and confessing to crime are two separate issues. If you are a Christian and you truly and honestly confess your sins before God, he will forgive you. God's forgiveness is not a permit to sin at will and then expect forgiveness. He expects you to not intentionally go out and commit the same offense. Confessing to a crime to a human judge is not the same as confessing a sin to God. If a criminal confesses to murder does his time gets out of jail and immediately murders again, his confession was not an act of contrition it was an admission of guilt. There is a difference.

If you continue to sin those sins are not forgiven.
Hebrews 10:26 "For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. 28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE." 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God."

You are forgiven if you confess your sins and repent (stop sinning). Listen to "Hell's Best Kept Secret" by Ray Comfort. He explains it beautifully.

in case you have faith in God, and have faith Jesus Christ died on your sins, and characteristic asked Him into your existence, you will get down on your knees good now and confess your sins to God. maximum Catholic church homes have taken the confessionals out of the church homes. you do no longer choose the Priest to admit your sins to, you have God 24 hours an afternoon, 7 days a week to admit your sins. First you humbly confess your sins to God, then you certainly repent intending to show far flung from those varieties of sins and not do them back, and then make an apology from all of them and God is committed to cleanse you and provide you grace and mercy from all sins. this is to no longer be taken gently. do no longer do this in case you relatively do no longer advise it as God is familiar with your coronary heart and regardless of in case you relatively advise it. basically understand that he's often there for you. you do no longer ought to bypass to a church and tell a pastor or a clergyman all your sins. he will hear your sins good on your individual residing house or everywhere you're. i'm hoping this enables you.

It doesn't work that way. If you go before God and ask with your heart for true forgiveness and are willing to change your behaviour then you are forgiven, You can't just casually say I'm sorry then go out & do the same thing again, if you do you weren't asking honestly. God can distinguish the difference.

If I repent, ask for forgiveness, and ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart, then I'm forgiven, but repent means to turn away from so you don't need to go out and committ another crime.

If this is your case, don't repent yet. The only way is total repentance towards the God , God will forgive those who repent, but don't repeat the same sins again (that will include other sins).

According to the Roman Catholic church, yes, however, the irony is that, that same God, who apparently forgives you if you ask for forgiveness, will send you to hell, in the blink of an eye, if you do not spend your life feeling guilty about every little thing you do! And his "messengers" (aka priests) are supposed to show us the way to "heaven" (eternal life by our Lord's side)...hahaha...what BS! Priests are more evil than politicians! If they are supposed to represent "our Lord and his teachings" then I think we might be better off following the teachings of Charles Manson...at least he doesn't pretend to be something that he's not! I loathe hypocrisy, and unfortunately that's what religion nowadays has come to...it's a business where alls fair in love and war, and forgiveness is given to the highest bidder :o<

Yes, you are forgiven of your sins if you ask.

Forgiveness shouldn't be an excuse to keep sinning.
