Sounds like you may have either/or both a hiatal hernia or GERD, which stands for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. It's a very common condition in older folks. It is a backflow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus and sometimes a person will get a very metallic taste in their mouth.
GERD is known as heartburn and most people feel an uncomfortable burning sensation behind the breastbone, which can radiate to the back. With the more severe forms of this disease people typically think they are having a heart attack.
Symtoms usually come on about 20 or 30 minutes after eating a heavy or greasy meal. Sometimes if you sit bent over you may experience excruciating pain because you're squeezing your chest and stomach area. Too, the pain may come and go or even last for an hour or even longer. That is why it is wise to see a physician immediately because the esophagus will be damaged over time, though the proper medications will aid in healing as long as the medication is taken as prescribed.
Good luck with your doctor's appointment! There are many excellent medications that are available if you are diagnosed with this disease/condition and diets to help if you wish to go that route -- along with the prescribed meds --

Waiting for my results of several tests because of the same issue. So far they have said that most people get weird feelings and occasional sharp pain in their chest sometime in their life ( even if these are quite regular and can last up to several years coming and going). Your doctor will tell you more, ask to be tested properly: Holters test (24 hour EGK) and ultrasound of heart at least.Hope all is well, and don't worry before there is a reason to do so.

Probably not. That's for the doctor to tell you.
It could be a digestive problem. This is a common symptom of food intolerance, especially sugar intolerance. If the doc can't find anything wrong with you, lay off the chocolates and fizzy drinks.

Stress and anxiety acuse lots of random pains - and then you concentrate more on them making it seem worse! Could be this.
Or maybe it's RSI related - do you work at a computer? Your GP should be able to tell if it's muscular or something deep down.
