Sorry to disagree Minijumbo but red wine and lemon juice are absolutely not bases. They are acidic. A base is a compund which produces a ph above 7 which is in the alkaline range. Most foods are acidic. Off the top of my head, I can think of baking soda and egg whites which are bases.

Soya beans and dark green vegetables first came to mind. And it doesn't sound logical, but red wines and lemon is considered a base in the diet.

Just wish I could find the article that I read it from. I will update if I do find it.
