Aspartame as I understand was developed originally as an ant killer. There are a lot of reports of its other serious health effects on humans and I avoid it and use Splenda instead just to be safe.

i thought it was an accidental discovery when trying to find a anti-ulcer drug...never heard of it killing ants...they seem to love the stuff since it's so concentrated and sweet...me personally i wouldn't go near the stuff if i can help it....it's only been approved for a little over 10 years ...and it took em 30 yrs to discover the ill effect of Saccharin ...plus did you know people die from being poisoned by Aspartame.?
