We have a memorial for a child aged 8 years and i need to plan for this. its all in my hands as the father is my fiance. i need a recipe that is basic as this is not to over do things but to ensure people eat a basic meal and are satisfied.

to prepare food for 100 people needs experience, you may know the recipe very well, but making it in huge quantities is different, you'll face practical problems that you have never faced before, you ll need stuff that not in your kitchen normally.
i suggest you ask for assistance from somebody who did that before or use catering.
doing that alone for the first time will be too risky.

I would get a caterer...many of your favorite restaurants will have that service. However, if you are a DIY kinda gal, get any basic recipe and multiply the indegrients to suit the required serving size. Go to those discount food stores like Food Max, or Smart and Final and get those disposable foil party trays. Basic crowd pleasers: Potato/egg salad, marinated chicken breast baked in the oven, maccarroni salad, a simple lettuce salad are all things you could make a day ahead, buy cupcakes, drinks, cups, plates, napkins. Check out the following websites...(my favorites)

ohhh, I'm so sorry for your loss.

many people may bring food items, this is a common expression of compassion. set everything out and thank them all. Otherwise, you won't go wrong with crock pots full of beef and noodles (use canned beef for convenience, and thick amish-style noodles) or chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, raw veggies and dip, mixed fruits salad-just mix sliced peaches, pears, pineapple chunks, fresh blueberries etc- these items are homey, comforting, and easy to prepare ahead, not fussy. they can keep warm in the crock pots and the veggies and salad can just be served right out of the fridge. anything anyone else brings can just blend in, yet you have the basics covered even if no one would bring anything. set out some rolls and butter too. God bless you all...

have it catered...the last thing you need right now is to be cooking for 100 people....call some local restaurants...often they will cater and even come set up the food and pack it all up at the end....if cost is an issue then how about getting all the family to chip in.....if catering is not an option then i'd say, don't serve a full meal...just put out some meat/cheese and veggie platters and other light snacks

i would get someone to cater. in the long run its all done served and cleaned up for you and will save alot of hassle.
if you must do it yourself, id say something simple like trays of premade lasagne, salad and bread set it up have a few people help serve and have people line up and have everything out on a line so they can walk by and hold out a plate while someone puts the food on the plate.
or a variety of sandwiches again let people serve themselves instead of you worrying about them sitting and being served
good luck

just dont make it to complicted and remember if you do it yourself its gonna be hard to keep hot food warm for that many guests if you do indivudule plates

you could do sandwiches, or a stew, roasts. Chicken, buy the big bags of leg quarters, and some barbecue sauce. Mashed potatoes with gravy aqnd buy the industrial size cans of corn, peas, potatoes, etc... You can get a lot of food for a low price. Whatever you do, buy the big sizes.

you can go to the store and buy cold cuts and cheese w/ rolls, veggie platters, fruit platters....also frozen meatballs and sauce always works too. Just put the meatballs in a crock-pot and let them cook for a few hours...im sorry to hear of your loss, god bless

hire someone to do this or go to a local restaurant and have them prepare the food. Unless you have an industrial size kitchen, you're not going to be able to do this

Personally, I would get a caterer. It will cost about the same and believe me, the hassle free experience will be worth it.
