the little vessels(red lines) in my eye turned really red and my eye was practically glued shut in the morning, so judging by the symptoms i guessed i had pink eye. I bought antibiotic eye-drops. My eye is not as red, but still obviouslly not better. It's still crusty in the morning, but not as bad. It says on the box not to use the eye drops for more that 5 days. Yesterday was day 5. What do I do? I JUST moved to UK so I'm not a permenant resident yet, and I don't have a doctor, nor can I afford it >.< and my wedding is in Dec!!!!!!!!!!!! please help :-(

Medical care is free in the UK on the NHS-and you can register with the local surgery and get an appointment. I was able to see a doctor as soon as I moved here from the US,so you should be too,

I would stop using the drops as advised in the information leaflet. You can get what is called rebound conjunctivitis if you use it any longer. Bathe you eyes with a little cotton wool soaked in cooled boiled water in between to clean up and yellow, crusty matter. If your symptoms still persist after a further 5 days go to your local pharmacy where a qualified pharmacist will take a look and recommend any further treatment.

Ring NHS Direct (0845 46 47) and they will be able to advise you of your nearest walk-in centre or doctor's surgery. I doubt you'd have to pay much, if anything at all at the doctors, but NHS direct should be able to tell you that as well.

In the meantime, boil a pint of water, dissolve a teaspoon of salt in it and allow it to cool. Dip some cotton wool in it and use it to wipe the gunk away from your eye - don't re-dip the cotton wool in the solution, use a fresh piece each time. Salt water is a sterile solution and will help clean up your eye.

Antibiotics do not work for viral infections. I know you say you don't have a doctor as yet but, and even as a foreign resident, you can still attend A and E! Y9ou could try dab your eyes with a little boiled water (Wait until it's cool) and see what happens but from what you describe ... It seems to me it should be seen to.

You dont have to pay for a doctor.
Go to your nearest doctors surgery and tell them that you want to register as a temporary patient and you will be able to see a doctor who will be able to help you further.
It doesnt matter that you are not a permanent resident in the UK, you still have the right to see a doctor.
You would most likely have to pay for the prescription if you get one though which costs £6.65.

it doesn't cost u anything to register with the doctor, so get registered !!! and yes, u have to pay about £6 for the prescription, but what price would you put on your eyesight ??? when i suffered from conjunctivitis when i was a kid, my mum used to boil up some water, and put some into a clean bowl with a teaspoon of salt. the salt is a natural antiseptic. let the saltwater cool, and then get a cotton wool ball / pad, dip it into the salt water, and then wipe your eyes with it, going from the outside edge of your eye, to the part that is closest to your nose.....that way u wipe all the cr*p out of your eye, rather than back into it. use a differnt piece of cotton wool for each eye. but seriously, get yourself to a doctor !!!!!!!!

You might have scratched your eye. If it is itchy, that could be the problem. You might also have another type of infection. In either case you need to see a doctor, there is no way around it. Its your eye and you need to take care of it! See a doctor, if you can't affound to pay it upfront, ask about installments or something. But your vision is very important.

Conjunctivitus & you dont have to pay for health service in the UK. I would be very suprised if you were truned away from your local doctors surgery. Go get some help - you'll be OK by December with the right treatment.

It sounds like conjunctivitis to me... Is pink eye what you call it?

If not, you need to get antibiotics for conjunctivitis, and bathe the eye with cotton wool and warm water, using a new pad of wool for each eye.
It is highly contagious so be careful not to spread to the other eye.
