In the states, no it is not "illegal" to send without a from address.
But if you are using the US mail to send threatening letters or dangerous substances, even without the From address, the Postal Inspector will investigate and they have a million ways to figure out who sent the letter.

No, there is no law pertaining to having an return addresses, thus you would not go to jail--it would unlikely be severe enough for such a punishment.
The return address assists the post office in returning mail which may not have enough postage, or if the envelope/parcel is unable to reach its intended destination. It also acts as a courtesy to the recipient to know the sender and allow him/her to respond.

What country are you in? It sounds a bit mental. No such law applies to me, also if you didn't but the from address on it how would they catch you?Unless they started to read your mail which is surely against the law...

I was curious when I saw this on here so i went to www.usps.com and looked at all the regulations concerning your querry. I did not find anywhere where it is illegal to send a piece of mail and not have the return address on it. I have sent mail without it before and have not been arrested yet... hold on.... someone knockin' at the door.......
