as we know, forward swept wing also have its own advantages. but why engineers never made one?

You mean, besides the Grumman X-29? Because that one was built, and tested extensively.

The main reason it wasn't adopted beyond the test stage was the level of automation required to keep the craft in flight.

What you say is not correct, in the history some airplanes with forward swept wing were built.
Forward swept wing was the answer to a problem presented by swept back wings: at high speeds airflow were deflected far from control surfaces, so the plane became uncontrollable.
The first airplane with forward swept wing was the Ju-287 built in Germany during WW2, it was a four jet engine powered bomber.
More recently also in HFB-320, X-29, F-16FSW and Su-47"Berkut" this architecture was applied.
This architecture is very problematic because the wing is aerodynamically unstable, in fact when a normal wing is flexed the load doesn't increase because the angle of attack remains the same for straight wing and decreases for back-swept wing, but in forward-swept wing the angle of attack increase and this make the aerodynamic load increase, and this can break the wing.
The only way to esc this circle is to build the wing structure with a material in witch a flexion causes a torsion in order to avoid any increasing of angle of attack. In fact forward swept wings are made more practical by composite materials, in witch this is possible.
In conclusion we can say that the advantages of forward swept wing don't usually justify the increase of weight due the structure that must be more rigid, and the increase of cost due to the more complex design process and due to the large use of the expensive composite materials.
(I'm sorry if my English is not perfect, but I hope you can understand anyway)

well the raeason why guys are not so enthusiastic is bcause of the fact that exept for the speed barrier of mach 5 , and eficiency,.......almost everything else has been improved to perfection in a fighter aircraft today
exaple : su-27 ........just look and marvel at the design concepts and the amazing manuveerability of the thing its a modern marvel .....
f-16 is a total loser in front of sukhoi's thrust vectoring technology and will be a sitting duck in air combact .......cobra attack by the su-29 is almost unfailable in the hands of a trined proffesional .......

ah yes americans wont even be able to see a su-29 from behind with a f-16.... radar tech is also too good .... not even comparable .....
0 degree turning radius americans perfected...tht too experimentally only in x-32 recently .....they attained in times of ussr .......

americans are just fooling around they dont have enough adwancements to develop forward swept winged air crafts......if u want to lok at a funcional one one being in production look fo su-42 or above from the russians...

maybe the financial and political crisis could have delayed the development but they are taking care of other aspects too ......
like efficiency .....in su-42 ...it has forward swept wings......still not in production only one mode has been made according to official records

Correction, there are airplanes with forward swept wings. The Grumman X-29 is one of them. The only problem is with the control of the aircraft. It is extremely unstable and requires advanced materials and fly-by-wires. They need about 40 corrections per second to keep them up. Flying such unstable stuff is not an easy task.

it used to be unpractical when planes were still operated by humans. Now with the aid of computer technology, they can turn a dynamically unstable plane into a highly maneuverable one. The famous Su-47 has a foward-swept wing
