Candy Cane Cookies
1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring OR 3/4 teaspoon peppermint flavoring
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
1/2 cup white sugar
I have made these many times. Very good and look good too!
Preheat oven to 375 F. Mix butter sugar, egg, and flavorings thoroughly. Add flour and salt, Mix well. Shape dough into a disk and wrap with plastic wrap; chill for at least 2 hours or until easy to handle. Roll into 4 inch strips; place on baking sheet. Curve top down to form handle or cane. Bake 9 minutes. While still warm, remove from pan and sprinkle with candy and sugar mixture.
Dough may be divided in half and colored with 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring if desired. Roll each color into strips, place side by side, press together lightly and twist like a rope.

I like these because you basically dump everything into one bowl, it makes a lot, and they freeze really well!
Peggy’s Fruitcake Cookies
1/4 c. Crisco shortening
½ c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ tbsp. milk
1/3 c. jelly ( I use grape)
2 tsp. baking soda
1 ½ c. flour
4 c. pecan pieces
1 lb. mixed candied fruit
1 lb golden raisins
Cream Crisco and sugar, add eggs, jelly and milk. Dredge fruits and nuts in flour mixed with baking soda, add to creamed mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake about 20 minutes at 300 degrees. These freeze really well.
Makes about 12 dozen

These are very popular and easy to make Christmas cookies.
Christmas Wreath Cookies
3/4 c. butter
1 (16 oz.) bag marshmallows
7 c. corn flakes
Green food coloring
Blue food coloring
Red hots
Melt butter in pan. Add marshmallows and stir until melted. Add food coloring until mixture is a nice "holly" green. Remove from heat and pour over corn flakes in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly. On wax paper, form wreath-shaped cookies and decorate with red hots to look like berries.
White Rolled Christmas Cookies
1 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
1 c. butter (margarine may be used)
2 c. flour
Work like pie crust.
Add: 1 egg, well beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. almond extract, if desired
This dough can be rolled and re-rolled as often as necessary for cutting desired shapes. Will not get tough. Frost with favorite powdered sugar icing and decorate. *Also may be rolled in balls and pressed flat to 1/4 inch. Bake at 300 to 350 degrees for 8 minutes.
