I am throwing the BS flag!! NO, NO, NO! Law Enforcement can NOT have ticket quotas. It violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution.

Now, do some Cheifs, Sheriffs, or shift commanders get on their people because their count is lower than the average??? Yes. Do City Attorneys and Mayors get on their departments to write more tickets so that the city makes more revenue (it ain't really that much - most goes to the state even if written on a city code) Yep, that happens too. Are these practices legal? - Well there are some loop holes unfortunately. And given the averages of what usually happens in a given area, if a certain cop has a low count, maybe he ain't doing his job. However; having an official policy that a traffic cop HAS to write XX many tickets in a given amount of time is unconstitutional.

Quotas are illegal 100% no questions asked. This is not to say that some places do not have them but they are very few and far between. If you live in a city with a professional and accredited police department they will not have a quota system.

The vast majority of police are honest and truly out there to serve and protect their fellow citizens. It only takes the actions of one or two idiots to wreck that image for everyone.

I am sure that some agencies may have "quotas" But in Oklahoma quota are illegal and not tolerated. You usually only see them in small towns where the city council members tell the officers what to do don't know any better. It is also illegal in Oklahoma to use the fines and cost of traffic tickets to "fund" the department.

Quotas are made in order to prove that cops are working which should not be the case because they will make arrests even when there are no violators.

In my department we do not have a quota. That is we do not have a set amount of tickets that we have to write. We do however have to have a high count of traffic contacts. That's a high number of traffic violators that we pull over for breaking the law. However the department leaves it up to us from that point to write a ticket or to give them a warning.

Unfortunately, they do. I know because my brother works around police officers and I have asked them. Yes they really have quotas they need to get. Its the same thing as salesmen they have quotas they have to meet too.

Depending on the department policy, quotas may be put in place.

Yes they do. The best advice you can take from that: don't speed at the end of the month!!! Even if you're only a little over, they'll nail you if they haven't reached their numbers. I got a ticket for 5 over once on the 30th. Sucks to be a civilian!

Yes we have quotas! If I write two more tickets this month I get the toaster! If I write 12 more I get the color tv. I think I will go out and tear it up! Look out fine citizens! Here I come!
