I just need to relax maybe. I am pretty stressed out and when I lay down to go to sleep, my neck hurts on both sides near the base. I tried Icy Hot, but the pain keeps coming back. Any Ideas on how to relax or to stop the pain quick? I must get to sleep. Thanks!

I have neck tension all the time. I use natural remedies for a first try. Use a blend of 5 drops lavender essential oil, and 5 drop chamomile in a Tablespoon of olive oil. Rub it on your neck and then take a hot shower. Afterwards lay down and do a little self massage on those areas on your neck where it hurts. I would also listen to some meditative music and try deep breathing. If this doesn't help me then I will resort to take two night time Tylenol and it helps me relax.

I like thermocare neck wraps. They are one time use, heat from air and last 16 hours. Take a hot shower with the water on your neck, then use thermocare. There is a really good Chinese liniment called zheng gu shui. If you can't find that, either "head on" or "active on"
do give relief for not too much $ and no pills.
If you know you're going to have a long study session, take ibuprofen, tylenol or whatever before you start and prevent the problem, or at least get a head start on it.

Try putting a heating pad around your neck. If you can take Ibuprofen, that would be good also. Try soaking in a hot bath with a little vinegar in it. It is known to help relieve muscle pain.

Take 2 tylenol or 4 Motrin (if they are 200mg each) and put an ice pack at the base of your neck. Sleep well. Your just stressed and so are your muscles, need to relax.

Any way you can adjust your seat to better facilitate viewing without strain? If it is computer involved, definately get your monitor at eye level. If it is reading from a book, you could always try laying down on your back and hold the book up or on a pillow in front of you.
