INGREDIENTS

One container (2 pounds) plain yogurt, about 3-2/3 cups
3/4 cup granulated sugar, less to taste
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
In a large bowl, whisk all of the ingredients until the sugar is dissolved. Pour into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. When frozen, place in a freezer container, pressing to remove air, seal and freeze for at least 6 hours. Place in refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes: You may vary the recipe by using full fat or low fat yogurt. I use 1% low fat. You may replace all or half of the granulated sugar with Splenda, the 1:1 ratio version. I use all Splenda, not because I can’t have sugar, but to reduce the calories in the end product. Finally, I don’t like anything very sweet. I usually reduce the amount of sugar by 1 tablespoon, using 1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons. You can start with less, and add more after tasting the whisked mixture.

Get an electric yogurt maker. It will make yogurt at home very easily.
When it is finished, chill it, and then when it is cold mix in fruits, sugars, syrups, marshmallows, nuts, cookies or candies.
Then run it in an ice cream maker. Or freeze it and as it freezes, stir it once in awhile until it sets (but this method is not as good as the ice cream maker).
I know you said healthy, but you can make your own cookies using wheat flours and natural sweeteners with zero preservatives. And you can make candy using healthy ingredients as well.
But I think the home made yogurt is the most important part, since the flavor really is so much better than what you can buy.
