Here in Canada, Holstein is sold here and right on the can it says 7% alcohol, not 5%.

I like Desperados, which has 7%. It is a beer strengthened with tequila infusion. Very good mix! But nothing beats Guinness!

I'm curious if you're referring to strong tasting or strong in flavor? There is a difference. For instance most Belgium beers are high in alcohol at around 9%. Not to mention that they taste amazing. Dogfishhead 120 min IPA is over 20% A.B.V as is Sam Adams Utopia. For me personally the alcohol percentage isn't as important as the flavor. Sure Steel Reserve is 8% alcohol but I wouldn't drink that crap if I had a gun to my head. So to answer the question I do love strong beers but I'm picky about it. La Chouffe is excellent, Trois Pistoles and La Fin du Monde by Unibroue are both excellent choices.

I do, they are called Pils in Germany.

Stron tasting LAGER beer, bitter in ale is different.

Holstein is only 5 % but has a lot of hops in it to make it bitterish and stronger in taste.

A good example of mild beer having the same amount of alcohol but no taste (hops) is American Budweiser. Its like young couple on the beach = f,,,ing close to water, we say here in Europe.

Other strong tasting, high hop, beers from Europe are i.e. : Jever, Bittburger and Zipfer, unfortunately don't know any American beer with high hops.

I don't drink beer personally, but my hubby loves it. He is into ale's and lagers, so the stronger the better. We went on vacation and he bought a "winter warmer", I tasted it for the remainder of the day cause it was that strong. He also likes Guinness, he also enjoys Keith's red on occasion. Basically with him, if it's a dark beer / lager, he'll love it if strong enough I can smell it across the table.
