I definitely think you can ask personal questions here on YA.
Just look at the categories - singles and dating, family and friends for example - those categories are about relationships - aren't relationships personal?
Actually, even categories that seem impersonal, can become personal - for example music - you can ask what music you like best or how it affects you or what does this song or singer mean to you.
Now thinking it over, the line between personal and impersonal can be quite blurry and I think people shouldn't be so rigid and so quick to judge others in a negative way.
People need all kinds of help - why must we restrict it?
The only guideline should be not to hurt others.

I believe you are thinking about this correctly. Just remember anonymity works both ways. Some of the dweebs on here love the cloak of anonymity, so they'll attempt to squash you, "because they can." They would never in a heartbeat do it to your face.
Keep asking, and you'll get your answers. Ignore the dweebs.

I agree with you. Sometimes I feel more comfortable sharing personal information with strangers, because I know that it can't come back to me. Maybe the "rude" response was a joke?

Personal questions can fall under the category "Chatting and personal communication". It is against YA community guide lines. It is reportable for abuse. One can get his account suspended.
Check this out:
http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php
Plus one should remember that too much personal information on internet (Public domain. remember?) can lead to other problems. once posted everything remains here.
I am pointing it out because many users ask afterwards if they can somehow delete their resolved personal questions. They cannt.

just do and ask what you want to, just keep the rights of others in mind [don't name anyone]. but to all those who judge others and then start givin their not so wanted opinion and preachment, screw you. who gave you the right to do that? if you think that everyone should care about all the things you care about, you need to wake up and stop being so arrogant, alright? and go get a life.

asking whether someone is a virgin or not in a religions section is indeed rude, since someone else will start preaching to thenonvirgins that they are going to hell.
