The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus

"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".

"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."
[Leviticus 11:7-8]

Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy

"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass."
[Deuteronomy 14:8]

A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.
THEN WHY CHRISTIANS SAY THAT PORK IS ALLOWED TO EAT IN CHRISTIANITY?

To whom was the prohibition given? To the Jews and Jews only. Come with me and trace the diet of man.

1. In the beginning all were vegetarian, there was no death or bloodshed.
2. After the fall of man, death and bloodshed followed. Probably some animals started to eat each other.
3. After the flood God allowed man to eat "anything that moves".
4. During Moses' time the people of Israel were not allowed to eat certain meat, not just pork (which is often the Muslim's main contention as they seem to pride themselves in observing what is clearly a Jewish thing).
Jews have observed Kosher food ever since, it's part of their distinctive culture.
5. In Jesus time, Jesus said that it's not what one eats that defiles him, but what comes out of his mouth from his heart. Jesus was about to make big changes as a result of His meeting the requirements of the Law.
6. In the Acts, Peter had a vision where he was commanded to eat of both clean and unclean animals. This again shows that something new has taken place with Christ's death.
7. Paul taught that eating or not eating does not make one more or less godly. Outward observance of laws do not deal with sin.

In conclusion: A Christian can eat ANYTHING. It is a freedom issue. To make diet a matter of holiness or judgement is to undermine the freedom we have in Christ.

God gave the nation of Israel a command to not eat pork. I believe that pigs are really nasty animals who would eat anything. They say one cannot cook the parasites out of it even a high temperatures. I know that when God tells us to do something and shows us a better way to stay healthy, we better listen. I don't think eating pork will land a person in hell, however I do think eating pork will get us into whatever eternity we are going to a lot faster! I am a Christian and I don't eat pork or shellfish, but I don't think those that do are condemned. The Jewish people were the healthiest of all the ancient people because of the dietary and sanitary laws that God gave them. I think we can learn some lessons here. I think that just because we gentiles were allowed into the family of God because of Christ this does not make the dietary and sanitary commands of the Old Testament invalid. The Jewish people during the Black Plague did not suffer the fate of the gentiles because they were still doing what God had instructed them to do concerning dietary and sanitary laws. They also did not suffer cervical cancer like the gentiles because of circumcision. God's laws are beneficial yesterday, today and forever!

If you notice, all the scriptures you quoted are found in the Old Testament. What you eat or do not eat is no longer relevant. When Jesus came he did away with "The Law". God told Paul that every thing that He has made is good. Because Jesus died for our sins, He did away with "The Law". For those Christians that you say told you that. Ask them to tell you where that is found in the New Testament once Jesus came. May God Bless

Rom 14:20 Do not undo the work of God for food. Truly, all things indeed are clean, but it is bad to the man eating because of a stumbling-block.
Rom 14:21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor anything by which your brother stumbles, or is offended, or is made weak.

All meat is considered "clean" now, because we are no longer under the Mosaic Law, but as Christians we are not to do something that will make another stumble. In other words, if eating pork offends you, im not going to serve you bacon with your eggs, but I have no convictions about it myself.

Jesus said "What defiles a person is not what goes into the mouth; it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles a person.” Matthew 15:11

Basically Christians believe that what you say, do think and feel is what makes you unclean not what you eat. Jesus is the basis of Christianity because he dies for us. If you want a better understanding of Christian ethics have a read of Matthew 5-7.

These were rules God gave to the Israelites. It was one of the rules which set them apart from all the nations around them, as he was building that nation.

To be honest, I don't know why he gave them that rule. What I do know is that God promised Abraham that his offspring would be a blessing to ALL Nations. Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of that blessing.

In the book of Acts, chapter 10, God told the Apostle Peter to no longer consider unclean animals as unclean. This allowed Peter to go to "the unclean" and tell them the Good News about Christ. At this time the nation of Israel was no longer to be a nation strictly unto itself, but as Jesus told the apostles in Acts 1:8, they were to be His "witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.""

Coz Jesus came back and said God made all things were clean! We go by the New Testament more than the old! The O.T. is more about the Jews and the N.T. is more about the Christians!

It's one of those parts they ignore for convenience's sake.

The prohibition of pork in old testament times had more to do with health reasons, but it was easier to get the superstitious to follow this by claiming it was handed down by a higher power.

because when we have the new testament, we are dead to the old law. Jesus Christ has given us a new and better covenant. However it may be that the old laws were given for health reasons especially in the time they were written. It would be a good idea not to eat pork but it is acceptable to eat it.

The only restriction to Christian can be found in 1 Cor 10:23-24.

The scripture you cite are some of the 613 commandments given by God to the Israelites (Jews).

Maybe if you read the book, you would know the difference.
