how do i know if my Yorkie is sleeping or if he died?

You should be able to feel a heart beat if you hold your hand around his chest, you should be able to see his ribs moving when he breaths, hold a mirror up to his nose you should be able to see his breath on the mirror...it will mist over... have a look at his gums they should be healthy pink not pale or blue, also if you gently touch the corner of his eye the reflex in the eye should make it move...
If he has died, be grateful for the knowledge he died peacefully and in his sleep

your Yorkie will still be breathing. To check - take a small mirror and place in front of his nose - you should see moisture from his breath on the glass.

Put a mirror in front of his nose. No steam on the mirror? OK, now check for a pulse. None? He's dead.

Otherwise, he's just sleeping.

See if he is breathing, or try to wake him up. But don't wake him up all the time if you have no good reason to suspect he is dead! If he is dead, the best way of knowing is that he stays dead for ever. If he sleeps, he wakes up eventually!
