I will be in NYC in the first week of January and wanted to know if the Christmas decorations will still be up at most of the major tourist sights. I really want to get pics of the Tree @ Rockerfeller Center and maybe some of the Macys decoratons.

It's really beautiful, but very cold. Dress very warm. You should walk up 5th ave which is where most of the really cool stuff to see is. Also, you should check out Time Square, because that is very nice now as well. Have fun!

It's the coldest month in NYC. The Christmas decorations and tree at Rockefeller center are up from Christmas through New Year's day, but after that they quickly disappear.

Not the best month to go to NYC, but the good news is that most of what you do in NYC is indoors. The exception to that is WALKING. NYC is a walking city, you will walk a lot as well as take the subway and an occasional cab. But there's no way around walking quite a bit. Wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing and you'll be fine. As I said, most of the activities are indoors so that will be good for you, and it's easy to duck into coffee shops and other stores to get out of the cold for a short break if you do get too cold.

One other benefit, in the cold winter weather, the skies are usually very clear, so take a trip to the top of the Empire State Building. Some of the best views I've gotten up there were in the cold winter weather, because it's so clear. My advice to you is go right when sun is setting, and get the view with daylight as well as at night with all the lights - both are beautiful in different ways.

Enjoy!!!

I have to agree, it is pretty cold in January. But that all depends on where you are coming from! If you are coming from Chicago, then I guess January in NYC won't seem too bad!

The window displays and tree will still be up for that week.
