My son never met his father and by the age 30 he has come to the understanding all on his own. Just make sure never say anything bad a bout a missing parent. I always told my son it was not him(my son) but his father hated me so much that he did not call or come. He did meet his half brother when he was about 23

That's a very common name, so you'll need to go to the city/county where you met your son's father then check for other Abernathy's in the telephone directory. Their are lots of name search websites like Four11.com, White pages.com, etc. but you may want to get the hard copy telephone directory of his last known address, then look for relatives and call them for information. I found my biological father that way, and found his junior son (my half-brother) in the directory.
When you find him, get a sample of DNA and his health history for the future benefit of your son, his children (your grandchildren), and their grandchildren. Without it, your family's health is in grave risk, so for your son's sake get it. Good luck and God Bless!

I know of a Dave Abernathy, but I've never heard that he had a child...I don't think it's a very common name...what state are you in?

I know how you feel - my daughter just turned 18 and her dad walked out when I was 3 months pregnant. She has always wanted to meet him and learn about him, but we have had no luck. There are many message boards out there for that kind of thing. Such as Ancestry.com - you can try there. Or try looking up any information you know about him, such as his high school. If you are willing to file for child support from him, the government will help you find him. Or you can hire one of the online services that do that for a fee. Good luck and hope you find him.

Have you tried any of the people internet searches? Some of them are relatively inexpensive.

Not to be rude, but what is with women either not knowing who the father is or the father "disappears?" I just don't get it, what happened to morals and values?

If he is not around your son doesn't need to understand he comes from a dead beat, my opinion
