The very thorough answer which gives the route, distance and estimated time is completely up the creek.

They've started digging up roundabouts on the A1

Try travelling at night, and in a car, I reckon you could safely do it in about 5 hours.

There's a nice, cheap little all night cafe near Newark on the A1, who don't charge £6 for a sandwich and a cup of tea.

i do not know but just print a AA route planner and it will tell you.
i live on the west coast opposite newcastle and from home to somerset with a couple of coffee breaks takes me 51/2 hours.just a useless bit of information for you.
