I need some help here. I'm a 100% gay man, and always have been. I have NEVER been tempted in a heterosexual direction. And I have assumed that straight men usually were just as sure of their sexuality as I have been of mine.

However, recent events (e.g., Clay Aiken & Ted Haggard) have suggested that many straight Christian guys are inextricably drawn to same-gender sex.

So what gives? Why does it seem that at least some ostensibly straight Christian men have difficulty steering clear of sex with other men? Is there some factor in the discussion within the church that helps create this spirit of deception?

I think that some who can’t come to grips with their sexuality think that by becoming a priest or pastor and dedicating their life to serving God they can overcome the urges.

You can’t be somebody you’re not. Makes your entire existence a lie.

What’s really sad is that even though they probably know in their hearts that they were born gay, they continue to call it a choice, thereby influencing countless others to live a lie.

There are a number of people who experience this type of temptation. I don't believe it's abnormal. I believe that different people are tempted by different things. Some people are drawn by the same sex, some by the opposite sex, some are attracted to both sexes. Just because a person has gay tendencies doesn't mean he/she cannot be a Christian. Throughout this lifetime, there are going to be things we find tempting that we struggle with.
While some churches may reject people with gay tendencies, the Bible tells us we're not to be judgmental of others. We need to let them know if something is wrong to do; however, we need to be supportive of them despite what they do.
After all, "a leopard cannot change his spots"; however, God can.

...All men have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. ...Every man is a liar. ...the Kingdom of Heaven can not be gained through works of the flesh Perhaps, you have not crossed the line to the more copious lusts of the flesh, simply by your upbringing, but how about the more obscure in nature like: gluttony, eavesdropping, nagging and complaining, pointing the finger (not the middle one), or could it be your pious, selfless nature, which, shines so brightly for others to see? Since you have self-righteously endeared us to what you do not do, what are the sins that you do, per chance? You sound like a brass gong, or the proverbial whitened sepulcher, because you are black as coal if you do not have the Holy Spirit of Truth to cover that soiled garment that you wear. As a foot note: Beer is awesome and it is not a sin to drink. You are truly missing out on a good thing. The sin is in the over indulgence. You drive only American cars. What? I drive a Lotus, so. that makes me a sinner? Remember that sin you were talking about? Hmmm.

Because they are probably gay since birth but hasn't found the courage to tell people yet. My grandfather is gay and he came out only 9 yrs ago. Plus u can look and tell Clay Aiken he is gay.

No I'm straight. I think it's like New Life said that men in higher positions are tempted more by sin than others. Some crumble under the pressure but most don't.

Give me a break!

Two men have given you the Idea that "Many" Christian men are drawn to what is not normal?

You are just grasping at straws to try to rationalize and justify your abnormal sexual orientation!

God's word tells us that "All" have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

That is the reason why we have accepted Jesus' death on the cross for the payment of our sins, past, present, and future.

It just so happens those two afore mentioned men happen to have sinned in the same way you do.

Most men that have ever existed do not have a deviant sexual appitite like the homosexuals do.

But you can rejoice because Jesus loves all men and your sins can be forgiven also!

yes.
People of faith are taught being gay is AGAINST GOD so if you are gay you hide it or fake being straight--it is ridiculous. If you are lucky you can "function" with a woman if not then you are screwed-religiously speaking.
I was lucky-but I point out the religious dogma as the BS it is. while the Bible thumpers have scripture to back them up I also have scripture that backs my position

unfortunately people of faith no longer ask God the hard questions--they ask other mortal fallible men. THEREIN lies the problem.

Sexuality preferences are not strictly "Choices" they are genetic

Sexual immorality does not quench the fire of lust -it fuels it. Illicit sexual activity is no more a cure for lust than whiskey is a cure for treatment of alcoholism. Bottom-line, we need to deal with our lust!
Immorality brings pain, heartbreak, wretchedness, guilt, and sexual diseases. Purity brings a sense of self-worth and dignity!
Amid this morass of immorality and spiritual blindness of sin and shameless ungodliness, the Holy Bible sets the standard for moral behavior. It is unquestionable and eternal authority on the matter of right and wrong.

Because he was never straight. He was in the closet, and most likely, in denial. I think it's a difficult-to-resist temptation among in the closet conservative Christian GAY men.

...But it wasn't too difficult for evangelist Ted Haggert after buying some crystal meth, was it? *ba dum ching!*

the theory that comes to mind for me is that possibly the celibacy of the priesthood in much of christianity appeals to gay men who want to be religious, as an "out" of their natural inclination.

but, not that suprisingly... the inclination is still there, and is still being left unsatisfied.
