This may sound odd and it takes a little practice.
While laying in bed trying to sleep clench every muscle in your body as hard as you can before they cramp and count to 20. Then relax them and count to 20. Do this over and over, usually 10 or so times. You will develop a rhythm and know when you have done it enough. Some chemical in your body will get into your muscles and relax them. It's worth a shot.

The first thing you need to do is try very hard to find out the cause of your staying awake for such long periods.
I have also found that aromatherapy can work wonders.
Lavender and Jasmine both have relaxing qualities that would be comforting to you, I recommend a lavender bath soak in the bath with some nice jasmine candles. (of course do not go to sleep with lit candles) get lavender filled sachets put them in your pillow case, lavender linen sprays and lotions, also get it VERY quiet prior to the bath and bed preperations. Lie down in the darkenss and inhale and exhale and think of lush soft black velvet enveloping your mind and body, breath in the lavender, and drift off to sleep.
Make sure you use good quality aromas from essentials oils.
GOOD LUCK!

If you are able to stay awake for 48 hours, and there are no drugs involved (including caffeine), you definitely need to see a physician, and get worked up for hyperthyroid state.
One of the earliest, and most annoying symptoms in Graves' disease, which can be dangerous.

Cut out caffeine (including coffee, tea, coke, etc)
Relaxation exercises, meditation, relaxing music
Exercise earlier in the day and fresh air
Herbal teas: chamomile, "sleepy time"
Darken your home and start "chilling out" for a couple of hours before bed.
Don't do or think about things that will get you worked up - excited, angry, "problem solver mode" etc
Lavender - oil in bath before bed, oil on pillow or massaged into temples, dried in a bag near your pillow
Reduce stress
Masturbation/sex before bed

ugh...I had insomnia for years. If the classic tips don't help (use your bedroom only for sleep and sex, don't exercise before bed, etc.) - well, they never helped me.
But I have find success with melatonin. This is a natural substance made by our bodies - I don't put it in the same category as sleeping pills as it is non-addictive.

Do you consider tea a drug? Some due?
Turkey has that stuff in it to make peeps fall asleep (hence peeps falling asleep at thanks giving dinner).
There are other herbs out there that would put you to sleep in two seconds....well 20 minutes I lied lol!
