Whenever you hear the words, "Comprehensive Reform", what they really mean is amnesty. There is no way to enforce the provisions of the Bush plan. If there were, we would not have the problem we have now. What makes Bush think that illegals, who are already forging fake documents so that they can work here, will not forge documents stating they have been here for five years? I am for a plan, similar to Mexico's immigration policy, that secures the border and protects American jobs. Only after we stop illegal immigration should we even consider the possibility of a guest worker program.

Mexico's immigration policy is a joke and a half. Mexico doesn't naturalize citizens, which means immigrants can never vote and may be fired from their jobs to make room for natural-born Mexicans. Don't you think legal immigrants (as your ancestors almost certainly were) should enjoy a little more protection under law? I think we need to make our naturalization process easier; the main reason illegal immigration is such a problem is because legal immigration is so difficult. I have friends who have lived in this country for eight years and still aren't citizens, and every one has stories about how they've been jerked around and flat-out degraded by an inefficient and insensitive immigration bureaucracy. If this system continues to operate without reform, nothing is going to slow illegal immigration. And don't even get me started about a border fence. Miles upon miles of hostile desert, and people think a freaking chain-link fence is going to have any effect?

You're right, 'comprehensive immigration reform' is poorly thought out, and likely unenforceable. I would propose consideration of a 10-year moratorium on immigration, in recognition of the fact that they've basically lost control of it, and get the border fence built, finally. Illegal immigration has to be stopped.

I'm still trying to figure out how, according to Bush, his "comprehensive plan" is going to secure the border. I mean, he's never outlined how that's possible. Besides, does he really think that illegals are not going to keep pouring over just because they're not included in his plan? Like they're really following our CURRENT laws!

So from your statement we should all believe that all illegals forged their own documents? Many illegals are here by over-staying real, valid visas. When an immigrant has a real, valid visa they can get a real SSN and/or tax id# which they continue to use after their visas have expired. I have stated this repeatedly in this forum. Why is that so hard to understand? I'm not trying to say there are NO illegals forging documents but there are plenty of AMERICANS doing that as well. It's called identity theft. People of low moral character from all walks of life do it! It is not nationality specific to Mexicans.

Until the time we can separate the words immigration from Mexican we will only be able to see things clearly and as they really are.

Best 'plan': Report, deport, build the fence, screen all who enter the USA, no documents=no job, no welfare, no free medical, no housing+deportation.

Bush doesn't "think".
