Just curious. is there a limit of pain one can feel? for example, having both you're arms and legs cut off must hurt pretty bad. Can it get any worse?

So, in the movie SAW , when all those gruesome things were happening, in reality those people would've passed out?

The limit of Pain is the extent one can bear the pain

There's a normal limit of pain tolerance for everyone. I think the threshold is different for different people, though.

I got into a skiing accident a few years ago - pulled a "George of the Jungle" on skis. (Hit a tree between the legs!) I was QUITE awake for a while, and was pretty calm although uncomfortable, but once my nerves finally had enough, I started passing/blacking out. This was all BEFORE I had been given morphine (didn't get that until I was airlifted to the hospital). I had fractured my pelvic bone in 5 places, I later found out. ANYWAY!

Your body starts "self-medicating" (not sure what with, epinephrine or adrenaline maybe?) once you hit a certain intolerable amount of pain. Hope that helps answers your question!

Just to correct the little lady.. water treatment is not painful physically, only emotionally.

As was suggested by another post.. pain beyond what is tolerable by the body will allow you to pass out. But, the pain is increased by the amount of tension that is evident within the body. If you relax, the pain tolerance is increased. Is how some people are able to have dental work without having a shot. Just by making sure their hands are loose and open.

For a guy, getting kicked between the legs. That's probably the worse.

I had a shop teacher who had an industrial accident where he lost his foot. He said that it all happened so fast he didn't even feel it. Also, the adrenaline kicks in where you lose the pain.

That's why I think getting kicked is worse than losing your arms and legs. I'm referring to immediate pain.

Pain is relative, what hurts really bad for you may not hurt me much at all.

To much pain and you normally pass out

Yes, it can get worse. Much worse. Two words: Water torture.
