We should work hard to begin with...
1Ti 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.
Pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish...
But when working hard turns to greed that is another matter,
Pro 15:27 He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes shall live.
Pro 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
Isa 56:11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough; and they are shepherds who cannot understand. They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, to his own end.

Well in my case I slave away for little financial reward and am barely able to survive financially. I give too much to my job - but I don't have a choice since there is so much on the line. It's not more stuff I want - simply to be able to be fully responsible financially for myself and then to be able to give. As it is I'm just barely hanging on. I'm working too hard - but not wanting to. It's not for hapiness in my case - it's to put food on the table for my kids. On the other hand if I could get a really good paying job - then I wouldn't have to work so hard and I would be under less stress and I would be happier making more money only because I'd have my world taken care of financially and enough to share with others. In this case, people are always looking down on me like I'm some poor irresponsible person who got themselves into a terrible mess and I hate the way people treat me like a beggar who needs their handouts when I work so hard. I'm like - take your charity and keep it - I just want a better job.

Money is like a certificate of honor in which we may go into a supermarket and present this certificate and demand it be redeemed for needed goods.
It takes a lot of backache out of living, in that we need not go out and hunt for our food, but rather, bestow upon others more capable than ourselves this certificate of honor for doing it in our stead.
The more money we have, the less work we must do. Otherwise, we would all still be living in huts battling the threats of disease and famine for ourselves.
However, human nature being what it is, this system of honor is taken to extremes and bastardized to the point of utter corruption.

depending on where in society you are, some work to get enough money to make their lives easy, some just for greed, some so they can provide for their children and their children's post secondary and some work for money just so they can survive. The sad fact is that money is needed to live, which is pathetic because of the vicious cycle it has started.

the true happiness comes from beleiving that what we have is enough other wise beleive me there are millionair people who always think of finding a new source for money, if u think that evey thing is from god, you are not going to worry about what you have and what you dont, always be contented with what you have,

Hiya..fear is the reason.Fear is the reason for all sins. Humans fear lack and lack increases greed. People hoarde to prevent lack and thus prevent feeling insecure. When someone feels insecure, they feel fearful. It is a cycle. Have a nice day.

our motivation for wanting more is purely worldly wants, we want to be able to provide for our families and ourselves. money isn't bad, it's the love of money. even non-religious people will agree with that.
the thing with religious people is that we know that god will always provide - he always has and he always will. my friend told me that she and her husband always make sure to tithe, and even though money might be really tight sometimes, they always seem to have just enough.

speak for yourself--I work so hard just to keep a roof over my head, food in the house, my bills paid, and my car (barely)running so that I can continue to work

resources
throughout the existence of all life on earth, survival has been linked to resources... those with more are better off than those with less.. this leads to competition for resources, hoarding, etc.... its very ingrained that "some is good, more is better" attitude...
