We "adopted" a male cat named Charlie a few years ago (he is now 3yrs old)...he has never hissed at anyone or been aggressive in anyway...was told that the women who had him previously also had a few other cats and Charlie was to "needy" of a cat (whatever that means) and she gave him to a shelter.
I love him to death and he is a great cat...cuddles most of the time and always wants to be petted when he gets the chance.....he sits ontop of the couch in front of the window and sees my car pull in driveway and my mother says he jumps of the top of the couch and sprints to the kitchen door to greet me.....I feel so loved!
One thing that I am curious about though is why he nips my hand ever so gently when I pet him or he'll rub all around my face and then all the sudden he will nip my chin or nose just one time only and then go back to rubbing....affection or irritation?
I'm in bed watchin TV...he walks over rubs my face a little then licks my eye area 1x only then lays down. STRANGE ??

when I told my friend about the 1 lick on my eye then lays down she told me ..." Hey he must think of you as his girlfriend and is giving you a kiss goodnight".... LOL.... I thought that was funny when she said that but the more I think about her comment the more I believe it actually may be a kiss goodnight

It's not strange. My male cat did that too. He would do it if he wanted petting and I wouldn't pet him, or if I petted him in a way he didn't like, usually down a certain spot in the middle of his back. They way your cat is doing is obviously affection. Cats only know how to communicate that way. They do that with other cats too. Some cats do that only with people they love. It's the way they say "I love you." Sometimes it's also, "Hey, pet me."....lol. I hope this answers your question.

when your cat nips you it is done very gently to let you know he loves you it is a cats only way of telling you how it is feeling the rubbing and licking means the same thing be happy that he is like this .so many cats do not get any love from people which is sad cats can make you feel loved and wanted i have four cats and they all do the same things even more when you are feeling sad

A organic chemical in catnip provides off a scent that both relaxes and excites many cats. They roll round, leap, rub, and act in basic terms straight forward stupid. Even huge cats which incorporates lions can go wild for catnip. yet not all pussycats connect the interesting. The heady scent impacts in basic terms about 50 to 70 % of cats. fortunately the chance free chemical wears off after about 5 to quarter-hour. i'm hoping i helped you out!

Your cat is wonderfully normal. Continue to love him as before.
When my cats do that gentle nip thing, I remove my hand and say "no bite". Then I go back to patting then again without further incident.
