My dad passed away a couple of years ago. Usually my family and i go to his grave and tell him a few developments in the family, the bad and the good. We even ask for his "protection" against all evil. I recently repented and gave my life to Jesus Christ now i'm wondering whether going to my dad's grave is a sin or not.

Oh you do no wrong by going to your dad's grave- I'm sorry for your loss- it must give you and your family a lot of comfort. I would have to say only Jesus can give you the protection against all evil that you ask your dad for. I'm sure he'd want to but only Jesus has that power.

I can see why you asked this question - because in the Bible it says you shouldn't contact spirits - hope I am right. I am glad you have found Jesus, but that doesn't mean you have to follow the indoctrination of Christianity. I believe in God (or the Divine Spirit) and Jesus and I am a Spiritualist. It brings you great comfort to visit the grave, so please keeping doing so. All I would say to you is that your father is no longer there, his spirit or soul is in Heaven (or Spirit World as I know it) and as such you can talk to him wherever you are - it doesn't have to be at the graveside. Please keep an open mind about Religion as there is so much that is written which is just not true. As a Spiritualist Medium I am working for God, the Divine Spirit, and I 'speak' to many passed over souls. This is not wrong as they contact me because they want me to pass messages of comfort to their loved ones, like you. I know how you feel because in the last 3 years I have not only 'lost' both my parents, but my sister too. My comfort is knowing that they live on in a different dimension. Your father does not need protection from evil - he is in good hands in a beautiful place. God bless.

Considering the Bible's view of the condition of the dead, it doesn't really do a whole lot. Consider what it says:

Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6 - For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

Basically stated, this means that those who have died can't hear us or have any effect on the living and therefore can not offer us protection. Jesus described Lazarus as being 'asleep' in death and then he resurrected Lazarus to life here on earth. That miracle was a foregleam of what Jesus will do on a worldwide scale for the dead when God's Kingdom is reigning over the earth. Consider what another scripture says in this regard:

Acts 24:15 - and I have hope toward God, which hope these men themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Revelation 21:3, 4 - With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, AND DEATH WILL BE NO MORE, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

1 Corinthians 15:26 - As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing.

Feel free to let me know (by e-mail) if you have any questions on what I've written here.

First of all-- Rejoice!! Thank God for allowing you to accept Him as Lord and Saviour (learn about the biblical doctrine of election, it will bless you). If you do not know about the biblical doctirine of election, ask! :)

Secondly, the Bible does not teach that it is wrong to visit graves, BUT consider that only God through His Holy Spirit which now resides in you (that is, if you have truly converted) can protect you against evil. A dead person (even your dad) can't.

Hope this helps.

Some people, including a segment of Anglicans, and Roman Catholics believe that those who have passed through the veil hear us. There is nothing wrong with talking to your Da' by his grave or in the dark of night in your bed, well anytime.
Do not let anyone tell you this is wrong. My mother's ashes sit by her piano, a picture on the wall of her and he favorite dogs, silk flowers on top of the container. On occasion, I speak to her, or look at her favorite spots in the other rooms and just say, "Hi Mom, just thinking about you."
Who the hell am I hurting? No one, and God certainly understands.
Admittedly if Mumsey (what I called her more as her health failed) ever starts talking back, I have a problem, but so far so good.
It is written in the Christian Scriptures that we are surrounded by a cloud of wittnesses. The saints certainly may be included in those numbers.
Go for it!

What kind of twisted form of religeon are you involved in that would say that it would be a bad thing to visit your dad's grave?

Take a chill pill, get right with your heart and see that the memory of your dad isn't an evil thing.

If ANYONE is telling you that your attachment to your family is a bad thing, then you need to think VERY seriously about whether you haven't run smack into a cult.

That's kind of control is just sick. That's how people end up drinking poison by the barrel or wearing purple uniforms with new sneakers, a roll of quarters, and taking cyanide.

No thats not a sin- but do you actually know what the true teachings of Christ are There are so many mistranslations in the Bible and King Constantine took out so much on Reincarnation and Vegetarianism Paul never met Christ and he was a cheater. 70% of the Bible are Paul's teachings Paulianity not Christianity. If one wants to know What Christ actually said to to http://www.essene.org. The Christian Essenes where the original Christians who went underground because they where being killed by the Romans and others. The lost teachings have been found and the Essenes are Bringing them to all to know. Seek the truth and ye shall find.

I can see that you are asking if it is wrong to ask your dead father for his protection against evil... as in you are believing that your dead father has some other-worldly power usually thought to be held by God.

Are you still actually believing in your dead father's power over evil? (Since your conversion) I think your beliefs will change over time as you study religion and search your own heart. I think you are just finding comfort from thinking of your dad as watching out for you. I don't think you are truly believing in your dad as an omnipotent power! I would not worry too much about it. Seeking comfort and visiting his grave are both reasonable things to do in the Christian view of the world.

I used to believe that going to the gravesite was a sin but I have since changed my mind. The person is dead but it is comforting just to have a place to go to just to remember that person. It is okay to go the the grave of your dad but now that you have accepted Jesus you need to know the truth. The only one that can answer your prayers is God Himself. Your father is dead and cannot hear you. Therefore he cannot answer your prayers.
Still visit the grave of your dad for your comfort. God ultimately will comfort you. Read your Bible and pray to God.
