Two things work for weight reduction and that's diet and excercise. The key is to create a caloric deficiency. If you are severely obese then you should lower your caloric intake to about 200 or 300 calories below the amount required to sustain your current weight, and spend at least 30 minutes a day doing moderate excercise.
If you are just a few pounds over weight and not gaining, you may want to switch to a healthier diet but excercise alone will take the weight off.
You generally want to eat things that are filling and keep your meals balanced. For example, a cup of cottage cheese has as many calories as four townhouse crackers but will fill you up. Also, stick to serving sizes when it comes to breads and pastas and less than serving sizes for deserts. Basically you should adopt a "clean" eating style.

I suggest skim milk. Limit the sugar and flavoring to it. And I would say it is a breakfast food.
It is great for diets because of how high in fiber it is and how filling it is. I suggest you look up how many carbs it has compared to the your daily carb serving. Then you know how much you can have.
Good luck on the diet.....I am on one too and eat oatmeal whenever it is offered at breakfast at my college dining hall.

oatmeal is really good for you. Make sure it is steel cut oats and not that instant stuff. The instant stuff really isn't all that great. Dont put sugare or any other stuff in it. I like mine with raISONS OR APPLES AND i JUST PUT A LITLLE CINIMON AND SPLENDA IN IT. mILK IS GREAT TOO. tHOUGH IT DOES ADD EXTRA CALORIES, MILK TENDS TO (oops) make you feel fuller. Its all a compramise. I cook mine with water, then add some milk in the end. Calcium is a must to loose weight. JUST MAKE SURE THE MILK IS FAT FREE. 2% or whole milk is loaded with sat fat. I would't eat it more than once a day. You need fruits and vegetables to lose weight and get your nutrition.

Oatmeal alone is not good for weight reduction. Your body needs minerals and vitamins. Exercise, eat lots of fruit, reduce your fat intake and you will loose weight. You need to burn 3500 calories in order to loose 1 pound of body weight. Ask your doctor, what your calorie intake should be to loose weight the healthy way.

Hi there !
Oats are good for reducing cholesterol and constipation !
But milk-oats-sugar combination is dangerous and will increase weight !
maybe try without sugar ! a difficult task though !
oats can be taken twice daily...morning and evening ! one glass of milk-one table spoon oats and little sugar !
best wishes !

you can eat anything as long as u watch your potion size. you can hav this for breakfast. it doesnt make you lose any weight but helps as it will fill you up and slowly release energy. this means you will be fuller for longer and not snack.
