Yes, in a way, a person can be consider an alcoholic. If the person does every weekend. Every weekend most people from high school to college binge drinks at parties. This can likely lead to alcoholism. Also, Weekend drinking leads to week day drinking. I should know because I been there.

I'd have to know how much the person is drinking every weekend to answer accurately, though the person's attitude toward the habit also comes into play. I'm assuming this person doesn't drink during the week, since you specify the weekend.
The person who has a couple of drinks Saturday and/or Sunday evening before dinner...no.
The person who drinks wine with meals during the weekend...no.
The person who habitually drinks on the weekend and is so passionately attached to the habit that he/she gets upset because some event means he/she has to stay sober on any given weekend...possibly yes.
The person who drinks enough every Friday and/or Saturday night to have a hangover the next morning...possibly yes.
The person who has suffered some painful health effects or personal embarrassments because of weekend drinking and still keeps doing it...probably yes.
The person who buys a fifth of the hard stuff and makes it all disappear over the weekend...probably yes.
The person who drinks to the pass-out point every weekend...yes.

It is a fine line. Do you need to drink every weekend? Do you have to drink until your drunk. Does it run in the family. You may not be an alcoholic now but you can always turn into one. My family has a history of it so I don't drink, I did not want to raise my family that way. It can start at13 or 30.

Mine names 'Sugar'...
and I am an alcoholic...
if drinking every weekend when your young (like 21+) and you have no kids or are very responsible with them, and a steady job and don't blow all your money on alcohol then, no, your not an alcoholic.
Now if your waking up sunday morning hung-over and needing a shot of Wild Turkey with a beer to chase it down... you may have some issues...

not really. when i was in my teens and early 20s , we went out every weekend...and drank lol. Now I dont drink at all really unless im going to dinner or something like that and Ill have a beer while waiting for a table or something like that. Just make sure you arent getting to the point where you are blowing off obligations because of drinking/being drunk/ being hungover. Never drink till you pass out either or lose total control of yourself...if that starts to happen then you have a problem.

NO...lol. If you are a young adult and you are drinking every weekend then you are just partying. And alcoholic drinks more than just a planned time like weekends.

You are an alcoholic if you cannot function without alcohol. Drinking everynight till you pass out is alcoholism. For an interesting view into an alcoholic's world I recommend the book Dry by Augstine Burroughs. It is the story of his battle with alcoholism and getting sober.

No, as long as its social drinking, it is not effecting your day to day function, and you are not abusing the alcohol (drinking until you vomit or pass out, drinking and driving, drinking so you can get "away" from the world, etc.). If your alcohol consumption is doing any of those things, please talk to a counselor, close friend, or family member.
