I am a member of a ghost investigation group in Virginia. You can search the web for a ghost group near you and call them. They will be happy to investigate your home and let you know what's going on. You should start a journal right away and document everything you think is going on with times, dates, weather conditions and so forth. If you want to investigate for yourself, you may want to look into EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) Here's what you do. You just need a simple tape recorder, voice recorder, or even a camcorder - just anything that can record sound. You pick a quiet time when there won't be any interruptions or noise pollution and turn on the recorder and interview the ghost as if it is right there with you. Be sure to pause and leave a gap between questions. You will not hear anything during this time. But, when you play the tape back, often people capture voices that weren't audible at the time of the interview. This is what is called EVP. You may have to try this several times to get a result. I've done it in my home and have gotten whispers on tape. If you want a sample of what this is all about, Google search "EVP" and you will get many sites to visit and play what other people have gotten. Or you can go straight to "ghostpix.com." You will be astounded. For an in depth explanation of what you are dealing with I recommend "How To Hunt Ghosts" by Joshua P. Warren. You find a way to describe the paranormal thing as exactly as you can, then bring that description to somebody who is the most likely to know about that specific thing.
If your not being religion is making you shy about approaching a preist or priestess, don't worry. Most religions consider it their duty to remove paranormal threats (ghosts demons etc) and would be glad to help you out, regardless of your faith/lack thereof.

Go to the library or a good book store and start reading.
Another thing that you can do, if you are in a town large enough to have a "headshop" or an "alternative bookstore", is talk to any Pagans or Wiccans that you meet there. We see that kind of stuff often and won't think that you are a fruitloop or are being posessed by evil forces or any of that other crap. :D

You can be spiritual, but not religious,you may be sensitive to paranormal activity. my mother had very strong esp, but did not believe in any particular religion.

Beleive it or not, at one time I wasn't a christian, I was raised christian but when I had a girl totally break my heart several years ago I got so suicidial and upset that I stopped following God, I beleived in Satan and him and I told God to screw off every day and thought I was pretty big. Well I started hearing my mom calling me, first in a soft and sweet voice. I ould go to her and we would fight cause I thought she was playing tricks with me. Then it turned to a mellow normal not happy not mad voice, then it gradually got madder then I've ever even heard her. I did what I told you to do in the last question of your's I answered about Demons, got in touch with God and stuff, and I became happier and God took the demon way, it was pretty scary, it wasn't just in the house, it followed me, I was in Wal Mart and heard her yell right behind me. She was int he other half of the store and there was people there and none of them heard anything. I searched and mom was no where close to me. But it is gone now, thankfully, cause of Christ and the good Lord. So my lack of faithin God drew demons to my door step, thats just one of many but the only one I tried to fight alone and failed until I asked God for help. Go in Christ
