Christians believe if you except Christ as your personal savior you have eternal life even if your die before the second coming or you are still alive at the second coming. What do people believe who aren't christians as to where you go after you die? Are you just dead. I am trying to understand what others believe. Not trying to be judgemental just trying to understand what other people who aren't christians believe

There are a lot of different "nonbelievers", so there would be a lot of different answers to your question

According to Muslims, we go to heaven based ultimately upon the Mercy of Allah (the word God in arabic). We follow the Quran and try to live by the example set forth to us by Muhammad(peace be upon him), the last Prophet. However, we also remember that there are other prophets with which to take examples from. In the end we pray for the Mercy of Allah. We are not "saved" . When we die we believe that we will be questioned in the grave by 2 angels (one "good" and one "bad"). A person who lived a good, sincere life will have a peaceful rest until the Day of Judgement. A person who did not will have the torture of the grave such as it closing in on him/her and crushing them (could be a figurative sense for the soul since they are dead and the body cannot feel). When the soul is taken from the body after 3 days it will be ripped from the body and this will be very painful. Of a true Muslim, one who has submitted to Allah, it will be painless. In the end, it's how you lived your life and the Mercy of Allah. He is 7000 times more Merciful than your own mother because of his love for us - hard to comprehend eh?

Hope this helps. There are many more details but this will help you understand a bit about us.

If you are correct in your statement that "If you except Christ you will have eternal life", and I think I read in the Bible that eternal life was a gift from God. Then would not an unbeliever "not possess eternal life", and therefore not live forever and just be dead like the atheist's believe?? Sorry that my answer seems to just create another question but this seems to be a logical answer to me and both sides get what they want.

Belief is belief and doesn't change reality. We humans make up billions of beliefs about everything every day -- giving things meaning accordingly. People have all different kinds of beliefs abuot death -- some that we live forever as a bodyless version of ourselves (soul), some that we cease to exist, some that there is no birth and death and the very identity of ourselves as individuals in bodies is illusory, others that we reincarnate, etc. Again, belief is belief and doesn't change whatever the truth is. So ... the only way to find out is to have a direct experience (called 'enlightenment').

Well, you see, there are several thousands of religions and belief systems outside of Christianity, and many of them believe different things. Some believe that you are judged when you die, some believe you go to a heaven or hell like place, some believe you are reincarnated, some believe you just stop existing... hell, some even believe you turn into a star and ascend into the night sky. By lumping everyone that isn't a Christian into the "non-believer" category, you're missing the big picture.

I believe in reincarnation...I believe we wrote our blueprint and came here to learn...I believe we keep coming back (if we choose to) to learn what it is we are supposed to learn until we learn it...I believe the other side is 3 feet off the ground from where we are....The other side is a greek atmosphere and beautiful....it's where we came from...I believe we can come back as many times as we choose..Read a sylvia brown book...that's what I believe.

Well it depends on what religion they are. Just because someone isn't a Christian, it doesn't make them an atheist. Every religion has their own ideas of where the soul goes after death.

I honestly don't know. It frightens me. Quite a bit. But, I know it's not the end. There's something else, because just being here on this plane of existence is just a waste of time.

Atheists accept that you're dead and gone. Just like you were before you were born, you become when you die. Nothingness. Void. Oblivion.
