i went through the same issue. i moved/was kicked out 8 days after my 18th birthday. my parents didnt give me anything. not even my clothes or shoes!!! no cell phone or car...no nothing. they dropped me off at work and said "good luck". so basically i started with my work uniform and $200 bucks in the bank. i got a the courts and athorities invovled and they said "if you can prove ownership by recepts then you can claim it...otherwise..." blah blah blah...it sucks...but its true. sorry to burst your bubble.

No they can't if you can prove that it's your stuff. Like with receipts but rarely people keep receipts for all their things. They can turn you in for theft if you try to take it from their house. Legally speaking unless you have proof of ownership such as a receipt, it is their property that you are removing it from. So if you don't have proof, all you can do is take them to small claims court to try to get your stuff back. But if there is such animosity as to them calling the police, then if I were you I would just leave and buy new cloths, cd/dvd's and stuff. It isn't worth the hassle or the money and time spent going to court.

WOW and I thought my folks had a hard time when I moved out! I seriously doubt your parents would call the cops on you for moving your stuff out but the big question here is why would they even say that? I understand that parents have a hard time letting go but seriously...that's a bit extreme! Maybe you'd be better off leaving it behind and getting new stuff. Eventually they'll come to their senses and realize they don't really want your stuff and give it back to you.

No they cannot. So stupid, they said you can't take your clothes. I think they have a control issue. Sounds like moving out is a good choice. Moving some of your stuff out a little at a time is a good idea, just make sure they don't know. Maybe you can take a bunch of it to a friends house.

Your parents are being jerks. If I were you, I'd slowly start sneaking your stuff out in your car (and store it at a friend's house). Then, when you move out, let them take "claim" to the ugly crap you no longer wanted anyways. lol It's a good way to sneak. If your parents call the cops on you, that's ridiculous. I'd threaten to disown them then.
