I was trying to find out the name of the wine the main character talks about and drinks on the beginning off the road trip. He says he's saving it for a special occasion but the friend opens it anyway. I think it was a pinot noir, but i'm not sure. I would like to know the vintage and the winery it came from. If anyone knows this could they pass the info along to me. Thanks.

Thanks for both answers, the one I'm trying to find out is the white pinot. Thank you, but I am going to look into that sanford as well. I'm trying to find a good present for my father and I think a good bottle of wine will do.

It was champagne and he asks him not to open it because it is warm but he does anyway.
The champagne was a '92 Byron champagne.

The one he was "saving" was a '61 ChevalBlanc, which his girlfriend chides him on the saving part and tells him "any day" is a special day when you drink that or something like that (I assume they were inferring the very high price of a rare wine?)

Anyway, he ends up in the coffee shop after the wedding drinking it from a paper cup which turned his very bad day (seeing his ex pregnant and basically the whole trip to that point) into a special day as he comes to terms with what has happened and is ready to move on (no more drinking and dialing???)

I really am not a fanatic about this movie.
Just thank cable for showing it in a continuous loop for about 2 years, and I helpless to avert my eyes, watched.

The wine opened and drunk in the car was a Byron Vineyards Brut Reserve1992 sparkling wine.

It was a champagne method wine made from 100% Pinot Noir.

Since PN is a black grape Jack was puzzled how it was a white wine. (of course, Champagne and similar wines are mostly made from black grapes -- they have clear juice and as red wines color comes from the skins, the grapes are pressed and the skins discarded)

I do not think you will find the 1992 vintage now, and the winery was bought by Rober Mondavi in 1990 and they no longer appear to make sparkling wine.

Their website is at http://www.byronwines.com

I believe it was the part where he says that its the best wine in Santa Barbara county, right?

The wine he is mentioning is from the 'Sanford' company. He talks about the chardonnay and pinot noir.

Edit..and Add on: P.S. I believe the quote when he mentions this is:

"Let’s take the Santa Rosa turnoff and hit Sanford first. These guys make top notch Pinot and Chardonnay. One of the best producers in Santa Barbara County"

At the beginning in the car, it was a white pinot noir. Part of the discussion was his friend asking if p. noir was supposed to be red (the wine was a white).

For a white pinot, you will need to do a search with "Santa Maria" in the title.

Several wineries will pop up.
