It is a need. A social need, but we can't force any body to learn a second Language.
My first language is Spanish, but I learned English, cos most US citizens are Monolingual in English... it is sad, because they realize Spanish is then2nd most spoken language in the USA, and most Immigrants are from Hispanic countries, and also Spanish is the second most spoken language in the World!

i'm interior the opinion that, even nonetheless gaining knowledge of a 2nd language different than English is crucial, that greater non-English conversing individuals (documented and undocumented) must be gaining knowledge of English. it particularly is our national language and has been considering its inception. it particularly is like having a gaggle of French people flow into Germany and ask the Germans to learn French. If individuals prefer to deal greater desirable with foreigners at abode and overseas, getting a minimum of a ordinary information of their language and putting forth an attempt to apply it shows which you're actually not ignorant. although, it particularly is probably no longer needed to learn Spanish as a 2nd language to function interior the borders of our u . s . a ..

Hi, I think any language learned is an enrichment, but I'm not agree with imposing it to everybody...
I know you aren't talking about impose it, but sometimes, you may read from South Americans something like 'If we have to learn English, why they don't learn Spanish if we're a lot living round here?' well it's easy, I think that the people who go to live to another country must learn the language of that country and accept their way of life, not to wait others to change...
I live in Spain, and I have learned to speak English, because I like it, the same with French, but I can't accept someone impose me to learn Arabic or Romanian, only because we have a lot of population from those countries where it's spoken... if they want to live in Spain, they should make themselves understood... So, I think the U.S.A. is the same...
Sorry for the long text...

I'm a 100% white American with no Mexican heritage, and very little Spanish learned in school, but I bug my Mexican coworkers all the time to tell me "como se dice" for everything. Why not? It's cool to learn stuff like that.
