(1) Go to open mic nights, network with successful comedians, and practice and develop your own material consistently. You will learn the most from your peers.
(2) Try writing jokes or sketches for late night comedy.
(3) Join an improv comedy group, theatre or performance group.
Or start your own. Many comedians are talented writers. You can act out your combined sketches and play at regular venues.
(4) Hook up with a restaurant and start a dinner theatre. Or with your local public radio or public TV to have sketches on the air.
(5) Try out for musicals or dramas, film or TV auditions. See http://www.craigslist.org Any performance or production work is good for networking.
