In Luke 3 says, "When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age" Luke 3 also states that John the Baptizer started "preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins" during the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar. Tiberius became emperor at 14AD after the death of Augustus. That puts John's ministry around 29AD.

Based on inferences from Gospel accounts, Jesus was executed by crucifixion on a Friday, and on the 14th day of the Jewish month of Nisan. The only years in which Nisan 14 fell on a Friday during Pilate's governorship are 27, 30, 33, and 36AD.

Furthermore, the Gospel of John describes three separate Passovers during Jesus' ministry, which places him at around 33 years old. Apply this to Luke 3, and he was most likely crucified in 33AD at an age of around 33 years old.

Of course, there are conflicting viewpoints that put it anywhere between 26AD and 36AD.

We do not know for sure the exact age of Jesus when He was crucified, but He was probably 33 years old. Here is the argument.
Jesus was baptized. But the reason He was baptized was to "fulfill all righteousness," (Matt. 3:15). He had to fulfill the legal requirements for entering into the priesthood after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4; Heb. 5:8-10; 6:20). Priests offered sacrifice to God on behalf of the people. Jesus became a sacrifice for our sin (1 Pet. 2:24; 2 Cor. 5:21) in His role as priest.
To be consecrated as a priest, Jesus had to be: 1) washed with water - baptism - (Lev. 8:6; Exodus 29:4, Matt. 3:16). 2) Anointed with oil - the Holy Spirit - (Lev. 8:12; Exodus 29:7; Matt. 3:16). Additionally, He may have needed to be 30 years old, Num. 4:3, "from thirty years and upward, even to fifty years old, all who enter the service to do the work in the tent of meeting."
Therefore we can conclude that Jesus began His earthly ministry at the age of 30. Since it went on for 3 1/2 years before Jesus was crucified, it is safe to say that He was 33 at the time of His death.

Scholars have debated the date of Christ’s birth for centuries. Even if we believe that the facts given in Luke are correct, and they are, there is still room for doubt.

The date of 6 BC for His birth is based on Josephus’ statement that Herod died in the year of an eclipse which scholars has previously estimated was early in 4 BC, thus the 6BC requirement. Now some think this may have been later placing the date of birth at 3 BC.

Luke says Jesus was about 30 years of age and places the preaching of John (who was 6 months older than Jesus) in the 15th year of Tiberius. The problem with this is that Tiberius was given authority to reign in 12 AD but took the role of Caesar in 14 AD.

If we use the earlier date then Jesus was crucified in 30 AD, if the later date then He was crucified in 32 AD.

32 AD seems to be the more accurate date. I think it is the date arrived upon by Anderson in his book, The Coming Prince.

So, to answer your question, there is no missing years or extra years. From 3 BC to 32 AD is 34 years, or 33 ½ years. When counting from BC to AD there is no year zero.

Excellent question. The physician Luke tells us in two places, and Eusebius, the father of church history corroborates:

Luke 33: 23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry

John the Baptist's ministry starts shortly before,

Luke 3: 1 "...fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar..."
Secular history verifies that Tiberius had authority in the provinces concerned beginning in 11 AD. (co-regent with Augustus in 11 AD with special authority over Palestina though he became the unique emperor only in 14 AD)

Eusebius puts the beginning of his ministry at 26 AD and the crucifixion in 30 AD, which is widely accepted, 40 years before the destruction of the Second Temple.

Interestingly, the dates also align perfectly with Daniel's prophecy.

Records are accurate that he was 30 years old when he began his ministry, which continued for three years until his death.
He is believed to have been 33 years of age at the time of his crucifixicion.
There are also astronomy records of a particular event involving the presence of a star like the one that indicated his birth in that time frame.

He died at the age of 33. In the Bible it references that he started his "ministry" at the age of 30, and that it lasted 3 years.
