All cities throughout the world have 'wickedness' in them. (Whatever that is). LA just gets more press coverage. Besides, apparently God stopped obliterating cities out of spite after Sodom and Gommorah.
It was just those two, ok? No more. Really. He promises. He got a little pissed off and lost it. He's really sorry, He knows He said we have free will and all and then killed a few tens of thousands of people after they exercised that free will, but really He's sorry and he won't do it again. It was a bad call. Jeez, get over it.

It is a city name after the angels.

Why would any self respecting angel want to destroy a city named after him?

He would start with Las Vegas. Remember the movie "War Games"? That was brilliant having the first city "attacked" be Las Vegas.

God hasn't said he intends to destroy any cities, only the world, which is completely different. This includes the nations of the world, all of them.

World means people, not planet. In the sense of the Bible, it refers to anyone not in keeping with the teachings of Christ, whether they think they are or not.

Good point. And of course, I don't believe that God destroys cities. Forces of nature do. But people like to blame God for everything, especially when it suits their own agenda. Then, they can claim God is on their side.

Let's face the facts. Sin is threatening and destroying that which God created noble and good. Its taking by hordes both young and old into its hold. It's an epidemic of huge proportion and it's in our world. The curse of alcohol, drugs, and immorality have left many people adrift, without an anchor, headed for eternal destruction. People are readily influenced by their peers, media, magazines, newspapers, internet, and television. The mind is assailed to the point where it is in a whirlpool of confusion and frustration, resulting in spiritual and physical deterioration.
Many parents of today have sanctioned by their own ungodly living, the sins in which the younger generation indulges. God's moral principles have been carelessly disregarded.
Our homes, schools, and colleges cannot produce the quality of citizens that our nations need when drinking and drug use are tolerated and encouraged through the laxity of parents, teachers, and professors. The breakdown of morals on school campuses is appalling. People, because of the inherent sin, readily follow the tendencies and passions that satan has designed.
Jesus was and still is intolerant toward sin. He was tolerant toward the sinner, but intolerant toward the evil which enslaved the sinner. To the adultress He said, " neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.. " (John 8:11). He forgave her because He loved her; but He condemned her sin because He loathed it with a Holy hatred.
God has always been intolerant of sin! His word says, " Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil..." (Isaiah 1:16).
" Awake to the righteousness, and do not sin " (1 Corinthians 15:34). " Let the wicked forsake his ways, and the unrighteous man his thoughts..." (Isaiah 55:7).
Christ was so intolerant toward sin that He died on the cross to free men and women from its power. " For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life " (John3:16). Sin lies at the root of most of society's difficulties today. Whatever separates a person from God disunites that person from others. The world problem will never be solved until the question of sin is settled.
But the cross is God's answer to sin. To all who will receive the blessed news of salvation through Christ, it crosses out sin -cancels out sin's power forever.
Forest rangers know the value of the " burn back " when fighting forest fires, they carefully burn away the trees and shrubs to create a safety barrier. When a fire reaches that particular spot, plants, animals standing in that area are protected, they are safe from the flames. Thus, fire is fought by fire!
Calvary was a colossal fighting of fire by fire. Christ, taking on Himself all of our sins, allowed the fire of sin's judgement to fall on Him. The area around the cross has become a place of refuge for all who would escape the judgement of sin.
God is intolerant of sin. That intolerance sent His Son to die for us. God is tolerant right now toward people, but we will see soon how intolerant He is toward the sin of this world upon His return. He will transform this age-old earth, reversing the fall-out from the curse of the Garden of Eden. Are you ready?
