im a construction worker and i want to pack a lunch with dietetic foods, but theres three problems,
1. sure fruit is a good answer but im a big guy and i need more than bananas.
2. i have no access to a microwave.
3. im cutting carbs, not all the way but cutting back (it works best for me), so bread sandwiches arent going to work either.

what i usually have in my lunch is: (which usually doesnt get eaten and i go to jack in the box)

-yogurt
-fruit
-green tea/water
-cereal.. sometimes?

so if you have any foods that would fit in my lunch please help me out. ?? thanks people

well, a low-carb tortilla with turkey, lowfat mayo, mustard and a slice of cheese, add whatever veggies you like, roll it up and it should fit in the lunchbox.

tasty, and not too heavy on the waistline.

bring the yogurt and fruit too, maybe you can trade 'em for a Hostess cupcake!

I reccomend eating more root vegetables. Some cases diabetes is actually curable--root vegetables in the fall have a sugar in them called "inunlin". This sugar breaks down slowly and can teach your body to make insulin again. Roots of chicory, burdock, horseradish and dandelion have the highest levels of inulin but it is also found in beets, carrots, radishes, etc.
If you are going to eat fruit pick a better fruit than bananas. Apples and oranges have vitamin c which will give you alot more energy than a banana.
If you actually eat whats in your lunch you'll eventually get used to it. I'm sure that what you eat at jack in the box isn't diabetic friendly and low in carbs.
granola bars are a good substitute for cereal and more portable. You can get thermos like containers that will keep things like soup and stew warm (but are better shaped for soup than a thermos bottle). Salad is a good variation on the fruits and veggies--there so many different kinds of salad too.

There is a bread called 7 grams by Nature's Own. It has 7 grams of carbs per slice. Use deli thin turkey, or tuna in water, lettuce & tomato and low fat or fat free mayo, or mustard. Fat free or low fat chips, raw veggies, bottled water instead of soft drinks, and you can also have fresh fruit, ie apple, pear, any fruit that it takes a longer time to eat.
