First off there is no more challenging BOOT CAMP than the USMC. There is no BASIC in the USMC that's for the Army (Aint Ready to be a Marine Yet), Navy and AF. Secondly, Marines have their own special forces and they are just as highly trained as Seals...All branches of the military have special forces and they are equally tough.

First off.....I'm in the Air Force....BUT....I'm prior service Army Infantry. I trained with the Marines in a lot of places. They are not any tougher than any other "trainee" WHILE they are in training. However, after basic training most other military branches....uhh, branch out into jobs like cooks, or electricians, or tire repair guys, ect. And that can make a man/woman get soft over time....sure we still PT and all that but all Marines are Rifleman first and foremost, and are required to keep up the fitness and qualifications that are needed to pick up a weapon and go into battle on a seconds notice. That keeps the whole force in TOP condition. Believe me man, they ain't no tougher than anyone in any Infantry Division in the Army or Combat Controller in the Air Force or whatever it is the Navy does....but as a whole branch of service.....yeah

Looked at all the answeres and most are pretty accurate, with some glaring exceptions. Every Marine is a rifleman, no matter what else, cook, mechanic, driver what ever. Something else I did not see mentioned is that they are under the direct control of the President. Bottom line is if I had to pick a troop to be beside me I would take a marine because he has your back in a firefight for sure. That is hammered into marines from day one. Look up Chesty Puller.

properly, the Marines are some badass combatants, and there is not any question that they would be in each and every substantial conflict. although, being a soldier, i'm prepared on the army. you ought to evaluate Ranger guidance and bypass to seventy 5th Regiment. you ought to grow to be an 18 sequence particular Forces soldier, or you ought to do what I did and grow to be a 37F PSYOP soldier. We artwork in the back of enemy lines and customarily with SF, making use of words, propaganda, and different how you are able to convince, replace and impression. the two the Marines and army can easily grant you a guess to bypass into conflict, and the two are a competent selection. the earnings of the army is that it particularly is the biggest branch of the militia, with greater station alternatives, speedier merchandising, and customarily bigger budgets. I knew a fabulous style of former Marines who traded blue for green for those reasons. That reported, i think of asserting "i'm a Marine" gets you greater women folk...according to risk:-)

There are tough servicemen in every branch of the military, but on average I would agree with you that the Marines are tougher than the rest. Our Boot Camp is a lot harder than any of the other services.

Yeah. Especially the infanry. Comapred army to marines the marines infantry is hard as nails. and for the rest of the marines pogues (non-infanry) they are pretty tough too.
If you ever go to a marine base you will see a lot of fights or "rolling". They usually don't to really hurt one another but blood black eyes and other injuries are common in friendly fighting. Luckily a lot takes place on the ground where they are wrestling, yet still punching and kneeing, hence the term "rolling"
So to make my point, when guys get into that many fights. on a very regular basis, then yes, they are the toughest.
And the marines are not mostly infantry, For every infanrymen there are five non-fighting marines to back them up in logistics air support and command

This is so dumb. Everyone is just voting for their own branch, and saying mostly Marines. This is just a personal POV, but you can have a skinny/small kind of guy in the USMC, and a built guy join the USAF. With the same intelligence combat level, the USAF guy would probably win. It all depends who's in better shape. Here, take this for example,
USMC guy, that finished training and served a tour in Iraq, vs'ing a Navy guy. [Not a SEAL, but someone training to be one, it's still a average Navy guy.]
I'm not saying USMC guys aren't tough, because they are to have made it through BMT. It's just a really biased question, & depends on the statistics of the two men fighting.

Marine scout/snipers are tough people; who else can stand still in grass with bugs and no food for a week. I do know that basic training in the marines is pretty long, and that AF training isn't really that hard, compared to army and marines. The marines just have this Corps attitude put into them, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Well, that's hard to determine since marines are mainly infantry. So if you're comparing a marine to an Army cook, then yes the Marine is probably tougher.
I think because of their training, they are "tougher," but that's why they are sent in "first."
To be fair, Marines aren't really sent first. All the special forces are (Delta Force, Seals, Army Special Forces). Not to mention all the airstrikes and bombings that come before the Marines.
