Gas I know for sure was normal for me, even ran my husand out of the room a few times. As for hair shedding I was the opposite with both my daughter and my son my hair got thicker.

Gas is completely normal during pregnancy... as is constipation, and any other gastro-intestinal malady that can slowly torture a poor pregnant woman. As far as losing your hair... from what I understand, pregnancy is supposed to lessen the amount of hair loss, as the hormones cause your folicles to tighten and hold on to the hair longer (or something to that effect - it's been a while since I've read up on it). But pregnancy has different effects on every woman, every time. For my first pregnancy, I didn't notice any change in my hair before or after the birth. For my second, I noticed that my hair became thicker during pregnancy and started coming out by the handful about four months post-partum. I don't think you have anything to worry about, though. However, if you are really concerned, talk to your doctor... never be afraid to ask a question, even if you think it's silly.

Oh, and as far as the gas goes... my OB told me to take the highest dosage of the infants Mylicon drops to help relieve discomfort. Maybe you could give that a try and see if it works for you.

Hair shedding shouldn't happen when you are pregnant. Pregnancy hormones cause the hair to stay in the resting phase, not the falling out phase. Your hair should start shedding after you have your baby, usually around 3 to 4 months. Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins and eating healthy. Get your blood work checked to make sure you aren't low in iron. Low iron is common in pregnancy and can contribute to hair shedding.

Oh yeah. I've been so gassy and sometimes I feel like I'm going bald. Every time I wash my hair it seems like I pull another handful out of the drain. The zinc in your prenatal vitamin should help with the hair loss though. I think I've started growing enough to replace all that I'm loosing. The gassyness though, well nothing can help that. Better out than in, though. Congratulations!

Very normal, both things. If the gas is bothering you, talk to your dr. There are probably some things you can do to help in that department. The hair thing, unfortunately, is just life.

I had heartburn for the last 2-3 months of my pregnancy. I thought I was dying...and I was told about the old wives tale about heartburn and babies being born with hair. MY son was 8lbs 4 oz and was born with a whole head of blonde hair over an inch long all over his head. He needed a hair cut. So I agree with you.
