Why not just add a little sparkling water to any juice with a lot of crushed ice and put it in a fancy glass with a wedge of orange, lemon or lime or even a strawberry with a toothpick in it so they can retrieve it without making a mess. It's all in the delivery, put it on a tray and serve individually, be part of their fun! Make sure the glass is small like a wine glass or flute and cut down a straw to fit (get coloured ones).
That way the 'props' don't seem 'every day'.

Wow im impressed well done...im in australia and you can buy non alcoholic wine here in the supermarkets but im not sure of it there.Go for heat and eat finger foods and nibbles so you can enjoy being with your family rather than be stuck in the kitchen and paper plates so not much mess.I answered your other question and im glad you have used your skills that you have to organise this.It just goes to show you can bring a good situation out no matter what.........congrats you deserve a family award!!

You said everyone answer your question, so here goes.....Yes, you are encouraging drinking. tell them that they are not grown up so they don't get to drink. Period. Sorry if this offends you but if it's a FAMILY fun fest then why are you drinking? You might as well let them have some because your not even going to remember if they sneak some. Take a parenting class.

If you present "virgin" drinks, resembling their intoxicating counterparts; you are encouraging drinking. It's the feeling of sophistication and hippness that encourages kids to want to take part in what they have been inundated to believe is "cool" until they find themselves with their head in the toilet or worse to drunk to go to work, or-- just had a drunken car wreck! Do your family a favor and have ice cream sodas with whip cream and cherries on top! and root beer floats! Call it a "Ice cream social" and enjoy each other and the treats.

When I was younger, I remember my mom getting me Shirley Temples, Virgin Daiquiri's, or there is the non-alcoholic drink that comes in a bottle that , looks like the real thing , but cant remember what's it called -- think they had grape , and apple juice

How about sprite and an olive in a martini glass? Thing is you really are promoting drinking when they do grow up...sort of like handing out fake cigarettes.

A fake Shirley Temple can be good.
Use Grenadine & Sprite. Add Cherries! It also tastes great if you add a couple slices of lime... YUM!

From my experience, kids LOVE "Kiddie Cocktails". It's sprite with a splash of grenadine and a cherry.
