Since ancient times dieties and gods have been worshipped.
All of them devoid of todays God or Allah. Was it for the purpose of crowd control by 'religious' lawmakers of the day or is there an inherrant god need built into man?

It's a combination of the two actually. We are finite beings but the only perspective we have is consciousness... For us to imagine non-existence is impossible... This is probably the earliest root of how religion came about. Since then people in power have seized upon this basic human need for understanding, dressed it in fancy clothes and paraded it through the masses (with distinct modifications of course) in order to control those in need of such revelations.

Without science to help us understand the truth about our world, and our universe the only appeal to authority was through the church for a long long time.

i think so, but northern Native americans did not go in to fights about religion. they all had different religions though some were similar.
isn't Allah another word for god? i don't think they are different just the way the people praise it.
i think there is an inherent need for god, why else would every part of the world have some sort of god.

Note: Population control is different than crowd control. (although it could be argued religion provides both)

I would say there is an inherent explanation need built into man, and an infinite amount of things needed to be explained. Voi la! God.

Religion can be twisted to benefit the select few, but the beginning of many religions happen when there is a void in life without explanation. God is a symbolic 'fill in the blank' to many of the universe's unknown questions.
Still, you can not disprove a God, so... take your pick or take it easy (agnostic)

I don't get it . What population control got to do with what you said? To the other part of the question, yes there is an inherent need in man for a higher being.

Certain religions, such as Catholics, do place a very high importance on obediance to the church which creates a form of "crowd control". This however is wrong and not used under most Protestant churches.

Both. There is a god need to fill up the darkness and additionally, it turned out to be an extremely useful tool to control the masses.

it is mainly to control groups of people, but the god idea was created by man because we seem to think we need someone pulling the strings, they cant believe we could have made this much of a mess all by ourselves.
