Quite a bit. As the other person said you need to know rules and regs. and zoo's might be a place to get your bird but first you need to have a mew for it, hood, jesses, small game (don't expect it to feed it self always) A good bit of land to hunt and exersise your bird on. As for the bird i don't know for sure but your probably looking at 5-10 thousand at least. If you look at pet stores and see what thier highest price bird is it might give you an idea. Unless you get a common one like (merlins?) Your going to be looking at prices alot higher then pet store prices for reg. birds. What kind of bird were you intrested in?

I'm not sure about where you are, but when I spoke to a group in CA, there are rules & laws about owning some of these birds.

If you can't seem to find a group in your area, try looking at local Renaissance Fairs - they may have Falconry groups. Also local zoos may be able to get you the right contacts.

These beautiful birds can be a lot of work, so finding out about a group where you might be able to be involved before owning one yourself will give you a good indication of the commitment involved.

Best of luck (and I think they are great, but just go and enjoy other people's birds, myself!)
