It depends on the location of the burn, and how much of the body's surface it covers. Small 2nd degree (sometimes called "partial thickness") burns aren't typically dangerous, unless they involve critical areas like the face, especially the mouth and nose or other parts of the airway.

However, if the burns cover a large portion of the body, it can result in severe fluid loss, shock, and unfortunately, death.

Not knowing for certain how much of your brother's body is burned or what areas, I can't really give you a good answer. Regardless, your brother is in for a painful recovery process. Do what you can to help him out for awhile, he'll need it.

Most likely nothing will happen. It must have been pretty bad to be hospitalized for a 2nd degree burn, normally you can treat those on your own. Probably they are just going to make sure it doesnt get infected or try to replace burnt skin. he will be fine.

Don't worry, hope he comes home soon.

Depending on the extent of the burn, he will be kept in a sanitary enviornment. The most dangerous problem with burns is infection. If the hospital staff determines that he has really severe burns, they will transfer him to a Burn Center located in a major medical center. Good luck and God Bless. My prayers are with you and you.

well...it depends on where the burns are and what percent of his body has been burned...he will go up to the burn unit where his burns will be treated and protected against infection....they'll give him fluids and make sure he doesn't get dehydrated and just keep a close eye on him...there's not much you can do for burns..especially 2nd degree burns...if it's 3rd degree they might do skin grafts..but second degree burns have to just heal on their own..i don't know where the burns are but i don't think he's in critical condition...

They will cool the burn down to get the heat out of it clean the wound like any other and probably give him some pain relief
