Patching holes and covering cracks? Drywall tape with adhesive back and drywall mud. You might think about finishing walls with knock down look. it will cover up bulging crooked walls.

First fill all the cracks with drywall tape and mud and feather out a nice line. Let cure. Then prime the whole thing with a good primer.

Cover it with 1/4 sheetrock and that will be the end of your problems. Old plaster is like the energizer bunny, it just keeps going and going.
