Why breed just one time? If this female is of a wonderful bloodline, who has been cleared of all genetic diseases, who is an Agility Champ, Conformation Champ, Flyball Champ, Obedience Champ, Therapy Dog or whatever special quality it is that has you wanting to reproduce in the breed, why stop at one breeding?

On the other hand...she's just a pet? You haven't tested her for genetic problems that may be passed on to pups? You aren't sure of her pedigree?

If the latter is true, please reconsider breeding until you HAVE those clearances, until she has proved to be an exceptional Border Collie with traits that the breed should have.

There are way to many Borders waiting for good homes right now. This isn't the easiest breed to manage and they often lose their homes due to misunderstanding owners.

If you know people who love the breed as much as you, please steer them towards BC Rescue (link below).

Breeding dogs is hard work, if done right. You sound like a responsible person. Please be a responsible dog owner. If you choose to breed, the last place you should be looking for a mate for your girl is on some question board on the net. You will want to talk with your dog's breeder, go to numerous BC events, study the breed, study breeding itself.

Learn how to do it right so you won't cost your girl or her pups their lives due to your own inexperience!

how good is your collie pedigree & personality?
it doesnt just come down to pedigree they have to have a great personality and no issues as this could be passed down to the pups.
see if there are any working collies in your area and the farmer might just want pick of litter as a working dog.
i have a 2year old border collie to called skye and planning doing the same with a beatiful working dog called troy but the farmer doesnt know yet hee hee.hopefully when skye comes into season the troy with run to my house and do the deed.
before you do it though do what im going to do find at least 10 poeple you know that wants a pup and you can trust

I have a 5 month old BC female and she is a wonderful dog. Tho I considered breeding her, I decided she is not of proper quality for the breed standard and I decided not to do so for her. Some day, I will seek out a good bloodline to get a BC from and look into breeding at that time.

One thing you really need to be sure you do, before you do any kind of breeding, is to get your BC's health properly certified by your vet. If you BC is prone to anything like hip dysplasia, you don't want to be breeding her as you will risk passing this on to the pups.

If you need a good stud, I would suggest contacting your local BC Club as they will be able to make referrals. Keep in mind that many breeders are picky about where they let their bloodlines breed into, and many will have a list of requirments before considering your female (and health certification will be a must). They do this to protect the reputations of their bloodlines that they have worked so hard to establish and breed for good health and temperment.

It's called the classified ads! Every week there are new stud ads and I am positive you'll find the perfect one as I use them for my pomeranian stud! Have fun make sure you know when she is in heat, how long the period lasts, and when she can breed during the heat otherwise you could seriously hurt her or waste money.

Did you check your local pound if they have one? so then you can buy one and keep two loveable collies to yourself and have a new family.
