That's good you have a design in mind. Make sure its original and expresses you, something you love, or someone you love, and/or has a lot of meaning to you.
Okay, placement is VERY important, but choosing where to put it should not be chosen by people on a website, or how much it will hurt.
Okay Tattoos hurt(or sting, burn, do NOT feel good in some way). Keep in mind that all tattoos will hurt to some degree, and that everyone feels them differently. It depends on the artist, the design, length of tattoo session, location, and pain your tolerance.
Keep in mind that these are some things that make a tattoo painful: Places over bone, over fleshy/fatty areas, genital, mucus membrane, over hair follicles(and because the hair grows through the tattoo when it heals), places with lots of nerve endings, thin skin, sensitive...etc
Places that you see veins very well, or with a lot of fat, or very thin skin will be painful.
One of the best ways to decide a good location for a tattoo(unlike the pain) is the career factor. Keep in mind that businesses and employers can and most likely will refuse you a job if they do no like tattoos. Especially if it is your first, think long and hard about the placement. (glad you have a design in mind! That's always a good start) Choosing a location that you can show, but just as easily hide is the most responsible choice. A not very painful, but easy to hide place is the shoulderblade. That is just an example. Think of places that you can make them as public or private as you want to, keep your career/future career in mind, and choose what YOU want, and you'll be fine.
But don't let pain factor choose for you. Tattoos hurt, but they're not that bad, I promise. Put a LOT of thought into every aspect of your tattoo!
goodluck.

Without a doubt, different people feel pain to greater and lesser degrees. It's also true that different parts of the body are more and less sensitive. Areas that are fleshy (upper arm, calf, abdomen) tend to feel pain less than areas close to bone (an ankle, elbow, or the spine, for example). Some people will describe it as a hot scratching sensation while others will feel something more acute. Some people will wince and practice a breathing exercise to control the pain while others chat casually and even seem to doze. It's also remarkable how much of an effect your tattoo artist can make, both physically and mentally, on your experience of pain in the tattoo process.

It depends on the person. But my best advice is do NOTTTTTT get a tattoo somewhere on your body just cause it isn't painful!!!! I did that and it is the worst mistake I have ever made! Get it where you will be okay with seeing it EVERY day for the rest of your life.
I'm deathly scared of needles and I hate pain. But I have a couple tattoos and I promise, no matter where you get them, it isn't gonna hurt that bad!

I have one on my ankle and on my back. I didn't experience any pain with either of them. But I have witnessed people crying while having a tattoo. I think it has to do w/pain tolerance.

The tat on my calf and the one on my buttocks didn't hurt at all the first day. The second day the muscles in my calf protested and it was hard to walk, until they loosened up. Other than that, no problems. Close to the bone will hurt though.

If pain is a big factor on where you are going to put the tattoo then I would suggest waiting to get one.

On your upper arm isn't too bad. I've got one on the back of my neck that didn't hurt hardly at all - but it's just a name.....no coloring required - that's the hard part when they have to color.

some people say that over the bone is the most painful. but when i did mine on my lower back, it barely hurt.
it really does depend on your pain tolerance and your sensitivity.

My first one was on my lower right ab. I swear, it didn't hurt at all. I think the fear was worse than the sting.
