Five hours, best after the first hour opened. If you must keep the wine overnight, then you should put it into the frig. Why? wine is perishable and by dropping the temperature of the wine (red or white) you stop bacteria from developing.
I could give you a more detailed answer, but that would take way too long.

The next day it will be significantly poorer than the night you opened it. And the third day it will be undrinkable. So, once opened, either you drink it all or just pour it away. Sounds cruel but true.
With a white wine you can store it (closed) for another 2-3 days, but you'll always have a worse wine experience than on the first day/night.

Tricky question but here you go! Red wine tastes best when you let it breathe! Its best to let your wine sit for a few minutes in your glass before you drink it. When you go to a nice restaurant and order a nice bottle of red, the Sommelier ( wine steward ) will pour the entire bottle in to a carafe to let it breathe. However, if you are at home and only drink a glass at a time.... its best to invest in a wine vacuum that actually sucks all the air out of the bottle when you recork it. They are actually quite affordable and well worth the investment. See the Ebay link at the bottom of this paragraph. It will keep your red wine fresh for a very long time!! Otherwise your bottle will start going sour very slowly. Good luck!

Two days tops. Even at two days, use it for cooking.
