I am a vegetarian and I am no saint but I would never think of eating meat so I don't think that would make me more merciful than Jesus. does it? Meat eating supports animal slaughter and there is no killing in heaven is there?

God ordred man to slaughter animals. It is in the Bible, sorry!

Jesus and his diciples were Lamb eaters and Wine drinkers. Sorry!

There were passiages in the Bible removed by Constantine about not eating meat.

If you don't want to eat meat, that's cool. If you want to stop the rest of us from eating meat, that's not cool!

Some people don't want to drink wine and Jews say it's ok to celebrate Passover with Grape Juice and Water, but Wine is the traiditional way. Lamb is the traditional meat.

I personally don't like lamb and if I had to feast with Jesus I'd eat the bread and drinke the wine and maybe some some veggies, but lamb and I don't get a long. Beef, Chicken, Turkey, thats ok with me.

So if you and I were eating a last supper in the House of the Father with Jesus and all they had was lamb, both of us would not be eating meat that night! I would, however, the drink the wine and might eat some potato if they had some, even if it was cooked with the lamb.

Why is it ok to slaughter plants but not animals? A plant is a living breathing being and you seem to have no qualms about snuffing out its life…why do you make the distinction between an animal and a plant?

Do you drive a car, travel by plane, bus or other vehicle that uses an internal combustion engine? They use petroleum…a direct result from long extinct animals. Is there a moratorium on consuming animal by-products?

Since you reference the bible you may recall the passage about a land flowing with milk and honey. The use of these two items is due to the fact that these are the only two items of food that does not require something to die in order to consume them.

Be thankful that you have enough to eat and don't pass judgement on what other people eat. More than 1 billion people around the world live on less than $1 a day. Over one billion people do not have access to clean water. Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a disease associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene.

These artificial distinctions are distractions from real issues you can help solve.

Actually God laid out the directions on which animals were etible and what weren't. He gave man dominion over all the animals. If God laid out a plan for man to eat some meats then it is not considered outright slaughter. It is said in the new testament that some will eat meat and some will not. We are not to judge. But if one eats meat it should be an animal that God has declared clean. I understand where a vegetarian is coming from however, in not choosing to eat meat. The bible says the life is in the blood. If anything has life, blood, oxygen, then it seems it must have physical feelings. It does seem cruel to kill for the sport . If however, it is taken for sustanence then we should not judge.

Some thoughtful answers already about not judging others by what they eat.

Isn't part of problem that people have various preferences ingrained? City people seem to be the most sensitive to killing any animal while someone raised on a farm accepts it as natural that animals become people's food.

Let's be careful about imposing our eating preferences on others and use our energies to defend the obvious threats to human life like hunger and fighting.

God doesn't think of animals the way we do. The bible is full of sacrificing animals. I believe God put most animals on the earth to eat. We fell in love with animals and keep them as pets and things to take care of. I don't think it's wrong to be a vegetarian, but you are fooling yourself to think that we should all not eat meat because it's cruel. If we don't eat them then other animals will. In answer to your question, you are not more merciful than Jesus. Here's another one for you. There probably won't be any animals in heaven. Nowhere in the Bible does it say we will be in heaven with animals. I obviously can't know for sure until I get there, but most would agree with me. Sorry. I would love to see my dogs again someday, but I'm more excited to see my dad again.

From a religious perspective and assuming that you want references to the bible, we are told in the old testament what is ok to eat and how to eat it. If you believe that the bible was inspired by God, then it is ok to eat animals of any kind because Jesus came to fulfill the law, and not abolish it.

Regardless of what you believe, whether or not it is ok to eat animals really depends on what you are using as your moral compass. Unfortunately we are able to use anything to justify anything we want. My advice as a christian is that you should follow your heart in this matter and if eating meat makes you uncomfortable then go with that. I choose to eat meat and I do not believe that there is anything wrong with it. I do not look down on you because you choose not to. I simply see this aspect of the world differently from you.

I am a Celtic Pagan, and i see many animals as sacred, but they are considered sacred because we rely on them for food and nourishment. the animal spirit is prayed for and thanked because the animal gives it's life to sustain ours.

being a vegitarian is your choice, but it does not make you any different than the rest of us.

and you cannot say that you do not have any animal blood on your hands, if any of your veggies are purchased, then they came from a farm, and that farm was created by destroying animal habitat.

and then if you ever work on a farm while they are plowing the fields. you would see the very large number of burrowing animals that are killed when we cut 18 inches into the earth. rabbits/groundhogs, snakes, mice, moles etc. and if it is a large commercial farm deer are slaughtered in the fields because they eat the crops. they are shot and left to rot in the field, just because they were eating.

if you buy your veggies at a store, then there is more habitat destroied. and pollution in the form of the plastic packaging bags and the power source (likely burning coal for electric) that goes into a whole other line of planet destruction.

if you drive a car to the store, or ride a bus, you are polluting and killing animals, and if you do this on a paved road you are again contributing to the destruction of their enviroment.

furthermore if you live in a house or buiding of any kind,,,yep guilty again.

enviromentalist's agree that destruction of habitat is the largest threat to most animals. especially the small ones.

humans were designed to eat meat. we have the teeth and the digestive system for it.

believe me if you ever find yourself in front of a hungry predator they wil not think twice about your habits as a vegetarian.

There is no killing in Heaven, because there is no Flesh, there is no hunger or pain, because there is no flesh in Heaven.

Rom:14:17: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Rom:14:20: For meat destroy not the work of God. ALL THINGS INDEED ARE PURE; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.21: It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

Therefore if eating meat offends you, then by all means it would be sin for you to do so. However, it may not be sin for someone else, because they know that all things are PURE to him/her, and they can eat anything.
Therefore do not judge another, if they eat or do not eat. Do not eat if it offends another because you are in front of them.

If you walk into a house and you see that shoes are taken off at the door, you would do the same as to not offend people. If you know someone is a vegetarian, do not eat meat around such a person, because it might offend them ( I Cor 8:9 )

Rom:14:21: It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

1Cor:8:13: Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

In His Holy and Precious Name, Jesus Christ

Sorry but plants are living things also and have emotions and a soul . this has been proven by scientific means . So you are also slaughtering a living thing.
On the plus side the Creator gave us Dominion over all of the animals and plants on the Earth.
So its a matter of personal choice.

Humans are born omnivores - we required the nutrients found in meats and produce. Our bodies are meant to eat both types of food. That you are uncomfortable eating meat is fine, but we were created to eat it from day one. It isn't unmerciful to live out your purpose on earth, and the purpose of all animals is to be food for some other animal. Humanity is no different in that chain. It isn't cruelty - we don't torture the animals nor are we to kill without need. Of course, being who we are, some do make it evil. That was not the intended purpose of it though.

Killing in the commandments refers to other humans.
