'O.R.' means 'own recognizance'. When a person is arrested, they are allowed an opportunity to either be released with a 'bail' amount, meaning if they post bail, they can be released contingent on them returning to court for all proceedings. Another way to be released is by'OR'. that is, you are released from the jail because you are a low risk to the community and you are likely to return for court without having to post bail. The pretrial officer interviews you and then makes a recommendation to the Judge on whether you should be released on 'OR' (on your own recognizance and without having to post bail). They look at your ties to the community and your low or none criminal history. the more ties you have (i.e. how long you've lived in the same place; how long you've been at your job; are your family in town, etc..) the more likely you'll be released back out without posting bail. good luck and be nice to the Pretrial officer!

It means own recognizance . In other words if you are going to be released "O.R." you do not need to pay any bail money. It means the court is going to trust you to make your court appearances without paying bail.
