Abraham was married to Sarah, but Sarah could not have any children to bare unto Abraham, So Sarah talked with her husband and told him to take her servant Hagar so she could bare them a child, Hagar born Ishmael. Abraham complied. However later Sarah did get pregnant, therefore since she now had a natural son, one that was of her blood not Hagar's blood, she knew that Ishmael, being the first born would inherit all, Sarah did not want Ishmael to inherit, but wanted her son to inherit all, So Sarah convinced Abraham, that it was the right thing to do, by sending Hagar and Ishmael away.
Hagar and Ishmael, surely felt jipped by this, and all the generations that followed Ishmael, desired to have the land Israel, because they feel it was rightfully theirs being the firstborn of Abraham, Ishmaels decendants are what we call Muslims today. The Muslims even to this very day feel the land of Israel is rightfully there land, that they should have inherited it, being the firstborn of Abraham, But Isaac and his decendants were given the land instead.
Therefore the conflict between the Jews and the Muslims, started with Hagar and her son.

Hagar was Sarah's hand maiden. She followed Sarah's orders and conceived Ishmael with Abraham, Sarah's husband in order to provide a child for Sarah. (Abraham and Sarah got a bit too impatient for the promised son and tried to do things their way.) Hagar had to pay the price for their impatience, although she did become "despised" in Sarah's sight. Sarah treated Hagar harshly and Hagar fled,God sent an angel of the Lord to Hagar and told her to return to Sarah.

(Sarah and Abraham at this point were called Sari and Abram)

Hagar was Abraham's concubine, and she was the maid of Abraham's wife Sarah. She gave birth to the father of the Arabs, Ishmael.

Hagar was moses' wife's 'servant'. Sara [the wife] was infertile and so Sara 'allowed' Hagar and moses conceive a baby--this was ok then. Hagar's son was Ishmael, who was a great person in the Bible
